Hi everyone! I was often asked to make desert maps. I've been putting it off until the last moment because I've never made such maps before and I was too lazy to work out the styling, look for assets and references.

Today I would like to present my first desert work - a town buried in the sands. It was inspired by such titles as Dune, Diablo 2 and my own experience of being in a desert near Dubai.

Here you can download FullHD and 4k versions (.mp4, .webm vp8/vp9 and .jpeg) + foundry .json file:

I plan to make about 10 desert-themed maps in 2023. Let me know what kind of desert maps you are looking for in the comments and I will implement the most popular ones!

Have you also thought about different types of sand? Maybe red or black sands just to have some variety.

I have settled on yellow and red and will use that only, so that the maps have compatibility with each other. Black cannot be used for walking surfaces. Due to the nature of monitors and software, it may be perceived as the blackness of tall obstacles.

Great inspirations! "Liquid" sand is a good option, either with dune waves or a sandfall, outposts / oases, sandstorms, sandy areas with intermittent rocks to get off soft earth (Dune / Tremors), or I also love your 'chase' concepts where a sand ship / strider / train with tracks could be overlaid or set on the screen for a good old fashioned western train robbery or chase.

Overall I think it's a very interesting locale and the textures and stuff look really good. There is one thing to point out though and that's the odd and abrupt ceasing of the winds just after the midpoint....rather than slowly fading out and back in. Looking forward to more. More ruins and entrances to larger structures would be welcome, as well as some wanderers' patchwork tents set up for camp, and perhaps some natural desert-meets-badlands scenes with some crags, rocky structures, ambush points, elevation changes, etc. Cheers! :)

I would love to see some Bazaar type maps, an oasis, Jerusalem style architecture

In addition to the oasis and crags mentioned above, I'd love to see a desert lair. Maybe a massive sinkhole that could house an antlion or sandworm, or that could double as an environmental hazard during a fight.

I'd like to see a map with 3 stages. One in the open dunes with elevation around the edges, stage 2 when small sinkholes start to open on the same map, and stage 3 when there are giant sinkholes in those same spots on the same map.
