Whew. This whole late thing is starting to become a norm, and that's bad. Whoops. The colored version of this will be available a lot sooner in the month. Make sure to stop by stream to see the process!

Anyway, y'all voted for it, an original character I haven't had the opportunity to draw. I was torn between two, and Twitter was the tie breaker. I present to you a third of my rascally oni, Masaru, the Storm Lord. He's the oldest of the four, and also probably the most cantankerous. His age has earned him great strength, and power, but also a bad back.

Approaching this, I had woodblock prints in mind. So I tried to use a lot of traditional shapes and imagery. I'm hoping this carries over to the colors. His pose is static because this was also pretty typical for those prints, but also I didn't want him to get too lost in the details of the background and foreground. Lycoris flowers (or spider lilies) are included for their numerous symbolism: the late summer and coming of fall, death, and bad luck. Oni themselves are bringers of bad luck, and the other two meanings are something I heavily associate with the character!

But that's enough ramble about this piece. I have some exciting things planned for the colors, which I'll ramble then, too.

To use the line art to color traditionally: print on your favorite paper or cardstock. To use the line art to color digitally: download the PNG and open in your program of choice. Make sure to set it as a regular layer and not as a "background" layer or paper layer. Set the layer style to "Multiply". make it your top most layer. **Clip Studio Tip: If you use the "Change brightness to opacity" it will make the white transparent and you can skip the Multiply layer style.
