- dakgalbi - dak (Korean for chicken), galbi (Korean for ribs) - basically, Korean bbq chicken - either marinated in a sweet soy based sauce, or a sweet and spicy gochujang (red pepper paste) sauce, then grilled - serve sliced into small bite-sized pieces, can be eaten in a ssam (lettuce leaf wrap) - this time, they grilled up the spicy marinated one - different areas of Korea are famous for different specific dishes, dakgalbi is famous in Chuncheon (which is where they're vacationing) - naengmyeon - Korean cold buckwheat noodle dish often eaten with bbq to cut through the grease and smoke of the meats - cook the noodles, then rinse them off in a cold water and ice bath to chill them immediately, which also makes them nice and chewy - put them in bowls, and serve with a chilled "broth" made of Korean pickle brine/vinegar and seasonings, a sweet and tangy gochujang sauce (similar to chojang, the gochujang sauce they dipped raw fish into) maybe some ice cubes to really make it cold and refreshing, shredded veggies, kimchi, Asian pear, and a couple halves of hard boiled egg - special note - scissors are a normal part of the Korean dining table set up - when you eat the majority of your foods with chopsticks, it is simply logical to cut everything into small enough pieces to make it more efficient to eat with them - meats, noodles, etc can tend to be too much, so scissors are a must - baseball, along with basketball, is a very popular sport in Korea, even to the point of having professional teams and league games - the rrrrrrrapmonster meme came from when there was an interview of people on the streets of Korea, asking older Koreans if they knew who BTS was, and a very funny little old man was just yelling about how of course, he knew who BTS was, and started spouting off their names - and that was how he said Namjoon's name, which, apparently, the boys saw and were charmed by, and have been imitating ever since xD - ssamjang - mix of 2 parts doenjang (Korean fermented soybean paste) to 1 part gochujang (Korean red pepper paste), and sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and rice wine vinegar (with variations based on preferences) - sweet/salty dip used when eating ssam, but can be used in various different meals - excellent sauce for veggies and meats (I mostly use it when I eat pork belly bbq - samgyeopsal) - jeotgal - chopped up bits of seafood preserved in a salty spicy brine, used as a seasoning - Koreans typically eat a lot of rice, and don't usually add a lot of salt directly to food that they're about to eat, but rather, use different methods to season what would otherwise be very bland and boring dishes - a spoonful of rice is fairly tasteless, but add a touch of jeotgal, and you get a myriad of complex flavors, as well as the sweet unique flavor of the rice itself - also makes it so when you season, you get more flavors, and less straight salt, so you use less sodium in the long run - doenjang is pronounced - dwen (rhymes with Gwen) jang (Korean "a" is pronounced ahh, like in ostrich) - Korean fermented soybean paste (similar to Japanese miso, but miso is a much more delicate flavor) - to me, it tastes a bit like a really good, funky cheese - musty in the best way, with a deep salty flavor - mostly used as a base for soups and sauces - Korean fried chicken - it is double fried, and, even when sauced, maintains crunchiness without greasiness - it is also very lightly dusted in flour, so it doesn't have a thick layer of bread on it - the most typical is plain Korean fried chicken, and yangnyeom - the fried chicken tossed in a Korean sweet and spicy sauce - different restaurants have their own sauces as well, but those two flavors are the most common, and most people order ban-ban (half and half) of those two flavors - if you remember when JK dyed half his hair in Bon Voyage, they told him he looked like ban-ban - this is what that reference meant

sorry about the long comment above xD also, qotd: the one place I want to return to is Korea - I was born there (Seoul), lived there for the first decade of my life, and haven't been back since - I miss it terribly, but I also know it's changed a great deal since I was there, so it's a little exciting/frightening a prospect

If you guys want to try to make doenjang-jiggae (fermented soybean stew) yourself (it's so easy btw), you should watch Maangchi's video on Youtube. She's a Korean Youtuber who do cooking videos. Seonkyoung Longest is also my favorite cook Youtuber. She cooks a lot of Korean and Asian dishes. I've made Maangchi's doenjang-jiggae and beef bulgogi twice in these few weeks cause it's so good and easy to make :) If you want to make Korean dishes, just make sure you have gochugaru (Korean chilli flakes), Gochujang (Korean chilli paste), doenjang (fermented soybean paste), dried anchovy and dried kelp in your pantry...as these are are usually the main ingredients in a lot of Korean dishes. I tried to make some Korean dishes myself these few weeks because of BTS lol XD

RM doesn't like seafood like "crabs, shrimps, and all the shellfish i think like, oysters, mussel, clams, etc. But he can eat fish and i think any kind fish as long as its not those type of seafood and shellfish.
