Thriller Bark definitely has some of the best jokes in the series. You aren't out of line for saying Scooby Doo when it comes to the Nami, Chopper, Usopp group

--Oda stated that he hates "actual" horror but made himself research them for this arc. He also said "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is one of his top 5 films so it follows that it inspired Thriller Bark and Brook (allegedly along with Addams Family, Scooby-Doo, and Rocky Horror Picture Show). --Oda drew concept sketch art of a skeleton character earlier in the story (circa year 2000). He was literally saving him for many years, and Luffy wanted a musician from the start. --I think Oda named Brook after Benjamin Franklin Peay, better known as "Brook Benton," a musician. Oda said he loves soul music and Brook Benton is his favorite in the genre. (His other favorite musicians include Bryan Adams, Eminem, and Izumi Kato) --I bet you'll get some comments saying Thriller Bark is "the arc where Nothing Happened." For the sake of preventing them from lowering your expectations, keep in mind it's just one of our inside jokes.
