It seems like P'Li's combustion bending is somewhat faster and definitely more flexible in comparison to Combustion Man but less powerful.

When I first watched this way back, I came up with some theories. I really believe Combustion-Bending is a mutation possible when a Fire-bender has some Air-bender ancestry, affecting the nature of their abilities. Not only is Combustion igniting air, their forehead eye symbols are reminiscent of spiritualism, which Air is known for. My second theory comes later to avoid spoilers but it's even better.
