The sword lore in One Piece is honestly one of my favorite parts of the show. They could've just made the swords normal weapons that vary in strength and quality, but the way they did it almost makes them their own separate characters with their own will and desires. And as the swordsman gets stronger the sword itself can get stronger through them. It makes them feel a lot more alive, which I just find interesting. Also just as a little breakdown: Saijō Ō Wazamono are Supreme Grade Blades, there are 12 of them. Ō Wazamono: Great Grade Blades, 21 of them. Ryō Wazamono: Skillful Grade Blades, 50 of them. Wazamono: Grade Blades, there are an unknown number of these. Kuina's sword, the Wado Ichimonji is one of the 21 Great Grade Blades. Kitetsu III, the cursed sword, is a Grade Blade, the weakest of the 3 cursed blades in the Kitetsu line. Mihawk's sword, called Yoru, is one of the 12 Supreme Grade Blades. A way to differentiate normal swords from graded blades is whether or not they have a name. Named blades are known as Meito.
