The reason why these episodes as well as the Gaimon the box dude feel so out of place is because they're adaptations of cover stories that Oda likes to put at the start of every chapter rather than the chapter pages themselves. They're fun to read because they're little tidbits of "where are there now" catch-up stories, but they're usually disconnected from the main plot. At some point, they stop adapting the cover stories.
