Concerning Kuina's death, people like to bring up "falling down the stairs" as a Japanese euphemism for committing suicide to explain why it was so out of nowhere. I went looking, and no such euphemism actually exists outside the one piece fandom, so take that with a grain of salt if it comes up. I personally never liked that theory because of how out of character it would be for Kuina, especially after making that promise. Also, neat little fact, Kuina's sword is almost strictly the only sword that goes in Zoro's mouth, I can think of only one other time he put another sword there.
