Think of Fresno and Bakersfield like Gary Indiana to Chicago (it’s not quite that bad in my opinion but it helps give a frame of reference and I only know so many Midwest cities) . Smaller, less to do, lower education, Republican etc The idea of Los Angeles/San Fran/San vs Central Valley where they are always are behind is a running note of Fresno and Bakersfield etc. It’s something we are so used to saying because most’s first reaction is “ugh that place” so it’s a defensive thing. Now things have been changing as Mexican farm immigrants are turning into 2nd, and 3rd generations and voting. If you check out Delano which is a higher Latino community and has new young reps, you see it leaning left and whatcha know finally had their first pride approved shortly after. There’s definitely a growing liberal population but conservatives culture really holds strong still in the Central Valley (Ugh Kevin McCarthy) I’m from Bakersfield and have dealt with that as I’ve lived in LA. Sorry if that was long but seeing Deja Skye there really means a lot and I totally know why they said their city that way.
