she's so bad at toilets

Holly Nelson

I think we are going to meet the senior Applebooms, and I think it is going to explain a lot.

Holly Nelson

I mean, two PhDs at her age? Bet she was never exposed to the finer points of home maintenance.

Andrew

Just tell me this isn’t why she needed to replace her arms!

Holly Nelson

Clogitty clogitty clog.

Desy

Did it get loud in here all of a sudden? It feels very loud. <3

Sleepy John

If she had deliberately clogged the can there might be a problem.

Anonymous

She's so sheltered she's never heard of a drain snake? Never used one before the kid upstairs flushed a bunch of cucumber slices, but it was easy to use and cleared the problem. Could have used high explosives and shaped the charge just so.

awgiedawgie

I daresay most average people haven't the slightest idea what a drain snake is. A toilet plunger, on the other hand...

Jeannine and Justin

I can sympathize. If I was stuck between the options of dealing with feeling stupid and embarrassed by calling maintenance/getting help clearing a clogged toilet, or just never going home again/staying in my office with a working toilet.... I can't say I wouldn't have wanted to choose the latter.

Joseph Bonnar

I learned how to use a drain snake the first time a plunger failed me. At the time a good drain snake was, um, about $5.00 if memory serves, while the plumber would have been $20.00 an hour plus $20.00 for the callout. (This was decades ago. I was cheap then and I'm STILL cheap.)

Miyaa

Liz needs a bidet. I assume bidets are standard in Cubetown?

BobC

Why is it that whenever Moray appears, my snark reservoir totally empties? I got nothin' for today. Sorry, folks. Ridiculing Liz foibles is totally blanked by Moray boob-hugs.

Drazi

Well, you can only try to unclog a toilet by hand once.

Mike O'Dell

I keep hearing that great Talking Heads line “Run, run run awaaaaaaay”.

Shane Wegner

AIs can’t even get poo-related diseases so presumably don’t have much of an aversion to it (minus any foibles they inherited from human psyches). AI plumbers would see Liz’s clogging as an academic challenge.

OldGoat

What did she clog it with? Never mind, I don't want to know. What if it had a pulse?

Opus the Poet

The Director gets to Keep her first-born. Jokes on him, Clair's BC is infallible.

Orion Rhine

I know the feeling. You know you need help but asking for it draws attention to you. I can do it on a good brain day, but on a bad one I just let myself suffer more. Good thing I'm having more good brain days than bad ones at the moment.

Shane Wegner

Sure, some have olfactory sensors, but it's more likely a detached "Ah, this has a mix of hydrogen sulfide and methane". The would doubtfully have an emotional response to that chemical composition data, unlike humans which would have a deep-rooted response like "I don't know why, but I feel repulsed by this." (Because poo contains like, I don't know, diphtheria and cholera and other stuff that harms people in ways they might not have words for.) Plus it wasn't covered, but I don't see why AIs couldn't just voluntarily flip a switch to turn off olfactory information if they did somehow find they somehow don't "like" the smell info. Humans can't (yet) because we're whatever evolution could slop together, but AIs could presumably control their sense data.

Shane Wegner

The standard is overdoing it with toilet paper. Maybe she's a big pooper though. Or both.

Chris Crowther

On the plus side, Liz gets to enjoy Moray's pillows.

Solomon Garland

Hmm, yeah, I think I hate Liz tbh

SilverbackRon

Honestly I think Grimliz could use a companion A.I. One that can make sure she gets her basic needs met, similar to how Momo reminded Marigold about basic things like food and helped her out of her self-imposed funk.

Anonymous

Liz is my sister from a different mother

David Paul

You make a valid point, Orion Rhine. Things like making rational decisions and reaching out for help (even if it is to unclog a toilet) are not easy to do when one is in a funk, and Liz seems to have been stalled in one for roughly 2 years. On a more personal note, I am glad that your brain has been kind like that, and I hope it continues the trend.

Jared Kolbly

Why do I have this sinking suspicion her toilet overflowed and she ran away, just to let that toilet water sit on the floor in the bathroom for a few months and cause other issues.

Mad Marie

Something tells me that phone is not feeling very smart at the moment…

David Durant

This is a really good point. When the comic started almost all AI characters were companions of humans. Over time it's shifted to all new AI characters having their own places and jobs. What Ron suggests would be a great idea, if Grimlizabeth would agree to it, but would it be a weird thing for Jeph to introduce that kind of character at this point?

Chris Crowther

I am here for the "never asking for help". Although in my case it's just because I will do anything to avoid talking to anyone or dealing with any social situation.

Zak Reichle

Aww .... Gremlizabeth!😭

Anonymous

Moray seems like she'd be very huggably comfortable.

Daniel Drazen

Maybe she was so disgusted with an earlier draft of her coolnicorn theorem she crumpled it up and tried flushing it out of existence.

enchantedsleeper

I wonder if the culprit is Liz's previous phone...

BookBeard

I don't think it would be weird, it's been pretty well established (*cough*retconned*cough*) that the companion AI thing is viewed as a job/calling. Like a live-in caregiver, but for emotional support.

BookBeard

Come to think of it, Pintsize has reflected on a couple of occasions about how Marten doesn't really need him anymore. Maybe he needs a new assignment. 😈

Matt Pedone

I <3 sarcastic Marten.

Zak Reichle

Emotional Support Boobs

Chris Warren

Aw, man. Now I feel sympathetic and sad. :(

Anonymous

Marten's going to be very busy with his new babysitting job.

Pete

This one is up on the site, but no patreon comic today? You OK Jeph?

Gemma Hentsch

I feel very attacked by this meltdown...

Adam Roebuck

It is a testimony to Jeph's diligence, dedication and commitment to QC that "there wasn't a comic in my inbox when I woke up?!" should be a cause for concern.

Anonymous

Been there done that. I'll be impressed when you knock an outhouse offline. Everyone should have personal goals.

Ruth Merriam

But she's so very good at boobage.
