We've hit the peak of summer, and I feel like now would be a good time to discuss my favorite summertime music. These songs and albums evoke sunny days, humid nights, trips to the beach, and all that other stuff I associate with the warmest time of year.
Probably my number one summer album is "Since I Left You" by The Avalanches. It's a classic in its own right, but there's something about its combination of eclectic samples, tropicalia-meets-Miami-club beats, and overall cohesion- it's as much a DJ mix as a traditional album, to my ears- that reminds me of nothing so much as driving down the highway with the windows open and the sun on my face.

Air France's "No Way Down" is another summertime classic for me, similar to the Avalanches but a little less sample-heavy and more melodic:

In a different vein, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead's indie rock classic "Source Tags & Codes" sounds like humidity, sweat, and a crowded nightclub on a hot July night:

On the other hand, Band Of Horses' "No One's Gonna Love You" sounds like a rocking chair on a porch, sipping the cold drink of your choice while the sun sets and the fireflies come out:

Paul Kalkbrenner's "Icke Wieder" is an example of an album that might not automatically evoke "summer" to you, but will forever be associated with the season to me because I spent a good two months with the CD in my car a couple summers ago when it came out. The standout track "Boexig Leise" is a hell of an earworm:

And finally, there's Sleigh Bells. If "Infinity Guitars" doesn't sound like summer to you, I don't even know, man.
