Awwww, Claire 🥺💔

Jackie Horn

That was so sweet tho! I'd also cry, Claire.

Anonymous

Oh sweetie.

Michael Boettger

That was, possibly, the sweetest thing she's ever done. Sadly Claire isn't in the emotional headspace to appreciate it. Claire is having a very bad day.

Anthony Gaglianese

The cake will taste better in the morning. Less risk of tears or fugue.

Ardent Slacker

I think she got overstimulated and then the spiral got triggered. Some emotional whiplash going on.

Ted Van Roekel

Someone needs ALL THE HUGS.

Anonymous

Does that mean Marten is the only person in all of history that can say they can have their Cake and eat it, too??

Vilinda

The poor sweety!

Anonymous

Also, poor Bubs

Martin Zarate

Oh God if anybody tells Elliot that this was the reaction to the cake he will die of heartbreak like a hunting dog whose master died.

Anonymous

Big oof. I know this feel big time. It'll be okay Claire! I worked as a barista for 8 years and now I'm a software developer! You can do it!

Anonymous

As someone who also got my MLS and then worked in a coffee shop while looking for a library job for a year, THIS IS WAY TOO CLOSE TO HOME AAAAAAA

Anonymous

Poor Elliott

Anonymous

In my experience of working in a library, a strong foundational knowledge of coffee is an invaluable asset.

BobC

Doesn't Claire know baristas make way more than librarians? Oh, wait: She hasn't seen her first payday.

Snippytorque

But being a librarian is her passion. She'd rather do that than be a barista for the rest of her life, regardless of the pay.

Chelsea Watson

If it's not butter cream, what icing is it? Fondant? Ganach?

Anonymous

Let her eat cake!

Miyaa

Hopefully at this point, Bubbles will be the voice of reason for Claire. Which means Pintsize will actually be the voice of reason and I’m going to have a bowl of Froot Loops now to calm myself down.

Logan Nix

Now is she crying because her friends love her so much, or because despite that love she still feels shitty about working at a coffee shop (& is internally beating herself up for not being more "grateful")? Claire needs all the hugs today

Francois couture

patience and time, it took me a long time to reach this dream job, i paid my dues and now i'm happy.

Thisguy

For most people, CoD isn't an end destination, its just a pitstop to refuel while you plan the next part of your trip. Though it takes some people longer to realize that than others. Dale and Faye are both former employees who went on to greater things (not without a lot of luck and, in Faye's case, hardships, but they made it eventually). As for the rest... Hanners is an exception, Dora doesn't count as she's the owner, for Emily, if she's not already, its only a matter of time before she leaves for further study in her field. And even Jeph acknowledges that Cossette and Penelope are not longer really in the comic, so they probably left for better things. So don't feel bad Claire, this isn't the end, its just a pitstop.

Merle Blue

Twisted-up, turny emotions. Poor Claire, but good that she has good friends.

Fred Baker

This particular QC is a reminder of just how great QC is. What heart.

Mad Marie

The feels. Fortunately, instant therapy is available. Somebody grab a fork, stat!

Bubbles isn't going to say "I'm a high-tech war machine with a supercomputer brain who's working in a storage space workshop with my raggedy bae". But she could. Claire is a frenzied tangle of knots and kinks where Bubbles is a calm straight line, but they have seemed to be able to find common ground before. They have more in common than is immediately apparent.

Leak

Well, she could have taken 40 cakes. And that would have been terrible...

Bagge

Can't go wrong with buttercream

God, this plot is playing out as I am coming to terms with having to do the SHITTIEST cashier job, this is like almost too relatable

William Burns

Sorry, you have drawn the short straw - retail customer service is the pits. I have seen some people develop remarkable skills in these jobs, and hope that is your compensation.

Some Ed

On that particular note, is Bubbles selling her spare CPU cycles for some extra cash? If not, why not?

Sarah

My during college retail job became my post college job. It took me 4 years after graduating to get a job that was sort of in my field. It was 5.5years after graduation I got one using my degree. Job hunting is totally soul crushing.

Anonymous

And here I am at 43 after working for 20+ yrs in my field of study starting 2 days after my last college final, contemplating starting over in a new field because it is absolutely destroying my mental health. Deep waters to dive into.

Anonymous

This time the cake better not be a lie

Michael Bruner

I am nowhere near the field I went to college and grad school for. Money's pathetic but I will admit I enjoy what I do, and I've gotten ridiculously lucky at getting good bosses, so can't say I ended up worse off in the end.

Scotty

What happened to Claire's ring?
