don't put your laundry in the chicken either

Bill O'Connor

I almost expected a winter soldier thing to happen at the end.

Kriss Pang

Rudder opensource dalmatian laboratory feline to you too?

Bailey Tighe

Laundry chicken? I think I understand Jeph a bit better now...

Joel Bateman

I wonder if this is the end of the Roko body arc. What's next? May body arc? Claire's exams score arc? More Hanners? INVISIBLE EMU ARC?!

Sleepy John

"My job used to be stopping robot fights, but you two kids just have fun, I'll see you around."

Huh, I guess even AIs have private keys.

I find the idea of an AI subconscious intriguing. It raises the point - is it possible to have intelligence without a subconscious?

Adam Friedlander

It really is amazing how far this comic has come since it started, in terms of themes, character depth, etc. It's still funny, but it's so much more now. This arc in particular is standing out to me as one of the most innovative to date.

Peter McDevitt

"Radiant cool crazy nightmare Zen New Jersey nowhere."

There is probably a lot of computing going on in robot bodies, handling things like proprioception, balance, and various internal equilibria. If AI sentience is possible, such a body having something like animal happiness is possible. It is pleasant to think of, though it would raise hard ethical questions.

Grace Kieser

So, old Roko is Spookybot and new roko is Melon?

Max Kaehn

Roko's subconscious is processing protocol incompatibilities between her original and replacement bodies! Something that she can't perceive consciously because protocols are to her consciousness what neurotransmitters are to ours.

That can't be her subconscious... that list contained not a single mention of bread.

Will Cuppett

Now they need to compare butt emblems

awgiedawgie

Well, it's not quite the proverbial smack upside the head that I expected, but I think I can still say I called it.

Hmm I noticed on the previous page that the new body didn't have a neck line, but she does here... Oversight?

Lightsabr2

Don't operate ailerons after homebrew.

William Cole

There’s a model of the psyche, called “predictive mind”, that contends much our mental activity *is* unconscious—automatic processing based on past patterns—and that what we think of as “conscious” thought only gets engaged when something new or unexpected occurs that causes the unconscious predictions to fail. For a better explanation than my inexpert understanding, see https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-brains-autopilot-mechanism-steers-consciousness/

The world is her oyster soup kitchen floor wax museum. (Thank you, Adrian Belew.)

At least she didn't say "blueberry waffles".

WHO GAVE HER MY PASSPHRASE?

Brent

I'm really liking the Roko expressions in these few pages

Matthew Van Gangelen

I’m sorry I was focused on the toaster chasing the anthropomorphic bread. But now that you mention it... you’re thing doesn’t make sense either.

But should we put a Labrador in our laundry???

OldGoat

Better a Labrador than a chicken. At least he MIGHT go outside.

BobC

Wow. NewBody should start an advice column.

Thomas Halpin

I've Got it! It's an Anagram! It says, "Owner, Read Brochure. Learn Domain Hack, 'Billy." That explains Everything O.o

New body, by Melon

Evgeniy Semyonov

Oh, that's actually an easy one: Aileron - something that helps you steer or stay afloat (in air or water) Homebrew - something you cannot purchase, something personal and close Labrador - a dog famously known as a good and loyal friend Laundry - to make something clean slowly, but without inflicting damage Chicken - famous euphemism for a scared person So, symbolic translation will be: "Help to your personality will come from unique close friends and it will wash away all your fears and anxiety". Simply put - trust Yay and Melon more, they got this.

MiaKitty

Wow, even if that wasn't the idea, I love it. Gratz!

Miyaa

Reminds me to change the combination to my briefcase.

I tried her first 3 words in What3Words.com but struck out, unless the closest match NorBOTnia is a really subtle easter egg, not putting it past ya: "//salieron.nombres.labrador Kiruna, Norbotnia" (Norbotten county Sweden/Lapland)...

Another comic artist was asking about examples of limited-color-palette work for inspiration, and I thought of these recent strips even though QC is usually full-color ... and then I noticed that these are basically all done in the hues of Roko's body (or nearly so), and that's a pretty nifty and clever reflection of the fact that this is all about her body. So, Jeph, I see what you did there -- and I like it.

Thomas Boys

Can someone please explain all this to me? Its very confusing seeing endless streams of random words. D:

Anonymous

If, by all this, you mean the strip, I believe that Jeph is playing on how dreams can combine useful insights with complete nonsense. If you mean our commentary, some of it is, in fact, streams of random words, in imitation of that part of the strip.

Some Ed

That would do it. No wonder she can't deal with the new body if it's all about the Aileron homebrew Labrador laundry chickens.

Some Ed

Yes, but this is a body that Roko's not getting along with.

Jason Zions

In https://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=4111, Roko says "I need to shut down and go to sleep, but this isn't my body and I don't know the protocols." And here's her new body, telling her *the protocols to use*. Those aren't words; they're triggering mnemonics for specific protocol elements used by the AI mind to communicate with the body. When AI mind was mated so abruptly to new body, it's clear the interface handshakes didn't have time to complete. Well, this is the body, extending the last handshake to the AI. Or so I hope.
