Did I just stumble across a /r/meirl post?

Brian

Jeph these posts are too sweet, we need some early-QC angst to balance it out

Joseph Houk

The back-of-the-head-arm-reach RETURNS!

Kyle Major

Haha yeah every time. Then I duck it up. Ah :( single for life

Gary Walker

Yeah. Definitely same.

Sigh. My romances keep turning into long-term friendships. I've been to more ex-girlfriend and ex-fiance' weddings than anyone else I know. (5 so far, with another in December.) Well, I suppose dating is ONE way of making great friends. Not the usual way, but it seems to be my way. And, like, I'm an uncle to ALL their kids!

Buck Caldwell

I met a girl at the Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1987. We dated on-and-off for 3 years before we finally got it right. We've been married now for 28 years. I still can't believe how lucky I got. So yeah, ALL THE TIME.

I hope this means we'll see more of Tai, she's awesome.

OMG guys, don't jinx yourselves, quickly touch some wood or something!

MikeT

That's a bit harsh Marten, Dora fucked that up all by herself.

Bagge

Bros-bros-bros!

Brent Catherman

And why mess up a good thing? And that's that.

Ben Russell-Gough

I've said this elsewhere before but it really is spooky how similar the Dora-Tai and Marten-Claire pairs are in terms of personality (and, in Marten and Dora's case, appearance)! All I can add is that maybe Marten and Tai would be doing the right thing to tell their significant others about their feelings on this matter!

awgiedawgie

No argument about Dora. But Marten really wasn't what she needed. He's too easy-going. Tai doesn't put up with her crap. So Marten's right - Tai is better for her.

Ben Russell-Gough

Dora had a lot (probably most) of the responsibility but that doesn't stop Marten feeling that he wasn't the partner (in terms of emotional strength) that she needed.

Ben Russell-Gough

@Adam Garrison, I remember that one. I honestly thought that Tai was going to break up with Dora in that arc and there's been at least one or two other close calls! It's interesting that Dora was motivated by the possibility of losing Tai to seek help for her anxiety/paranoia, something that the possibility of losing Marten never motivated her to do.

MikeT

One could argue that Tai is just as emotionally immature as Marten (in different ways). But I think it's generally agreed that Dora was a cast-iron bitch with issues and Marten got the wrong end of that stick. However, they both seemed to have come out of it better off.

Mark

*Sigh* I don't :-(

Ben Russell-Gough

I wonder if we're going to see a strip in the near future with Dora and Claire talking about their relationship missteps and including them admitting that they want to be friends but the mutual awkwardness over Dora and Marten's break-up is getting in the way?

I noticed that hard same comment at the bottom. If that is self-referential then I am happy for you and congratulations!

Definitely not news to Jeph, but this is pretty much the constant background music of being an anxiety sufferer in a relationship (on worse days, it's more like "YOU WILL" than "don't" I say after 28 years of marriage

Anonymous

Having the emotional courage to say "I want to be be better friends with you," and "You ever get the feeling like 'OK you won the frigging lottery with this one, don't fuck it up,'" in the same two minutes of conversation is extraordinary. It is not just that she is too high to have filters, either. She has yet to say anything stupid or unkind. She is not reckless. She is brave.

Bruce Springsteen, talking after a song containing the lyric "I ain't gonna fuck it up this time," remarked that after a few more years of marriage he wished to amend that to "I ain't gonna fuck it up too bad this time." There is always that to hope for.

or, the lead into throwing one of our duo's lives into story filled CHAOS!!!

I always forget how much I like Tai when she's not around for a while. It feels like she hasn't had a lot going on since her and Dora got together (besides being the impetus for some change in Dora)
