What about Sharpies? Can I huff those before an exam? /s

Anonymous

What a valuable resource for a person to have.

Paul Lenoue

I actually knew a guy in high school who nearly flunked out before discovering that by smoking weed before school he aced every test. This was before "test anxiety" was recognized as a real thing, so the school administrators believed he was cheating and subjected him to very strict make-up exams, which he also aced while semi-stoned. They wanted to expel him for drug use, but the school principal was actually a pretty decent guy and made sure that didn't happen.

Matt

I also kind of want to hang out with Mom Augustus...

Magic Chopstick Games

...has anyone ever picked the right week to quit sniffing glue, though?

Brian

On this note, I want to get high with Marten’s Mom. That would be an interesting time.

She strikes me as a has to stay in control sort. At most you'd have her sipping a red wine or scotch.

Carl Fink

I'm old and out of touch. What is that little bottle that Tai is waving around?

Anonymous

Ok young people here, I’m in my 40ies and almost a straight edger since I was 20. I speak from experience, do not take caffeine pills, or amphetamine, acids, alcoohol, anti anxiety pills, heart rate control pills before any school test. Weed worked though, when I was able to control the laughter.

"Sage" advice? Sage was our euphemism for weed, back in the '70's.

Dunno, but it looks to me like Tai does have a glue bottle in her hand....

Brent Catherman

Looks like this was the wrong day to give up sniffing glue.

Cody Renton

I'm sorry, she just found out "the other day"? Wasn't that strip from like a year or two ago?

Ben Russell-Gough

Something tells me that, if properly examined, Tai would be a literal pharmacological smorgasbord of drug effects. Probably also a toxic hazard!

Miyaa

Reminds me of a guy in high school, who was smart but also a jock. The smart kids were upset at him for getting a perfect score on the ACT because he was clearly high on something and he claimed he just chose randomly on the test. Even though I thought he was bluffing, I liked that he didn’t take the standardized tests seriously.

Ben Russell-Gough

Am I the only one who suspects that Tai has no conscious memory of her finals?

awgiedawgie

Just a few months by our calendar, actually (April 10 of this year here on Patreon), but you have to remember that time doesn't pass in the same manner within the strip.

Bravo 👏

So wait, does this mean Tai's done with grad school and is a proper librarian? I'd always assumed she was an undergrad when she met Marten, maybe more time has passed than I realized.

Ben Russell-Gough

No, she's done with grad school and is basically continuing in her student job because no-one feels the need to change the terms under which she's managing the library.

Many young folk in the law school library where I work study on Adderal. Sometimes you can almost hear them speeding, a high thin whine like a circular saw cutting plywood. I suspect that they test on Adderal, too, and I bet sometimes some of them fall out of hyperfocus into anxiety attacks. I wonder what that is like, and how they modulate it. More drugs, probably.

Clifton Royston

Learn to summarize, Tai. Otherwise you and Claire will be here all afternoon while you run down the list. "Don't do ketamine either. Or Demerol. Or DMT. Or 5-methoxy-DMT. Or mescaline. Or synthetic psilocybin. Or ether. Or N,N-dipropyltryptamine. Or CBT - wait, that's a talk therapy, that's OK. Or ..."

awgiedawgie

I don't recall seeing whether she was in grad school or undergrad, but she was a student, at any rate, when Marten was hired, and graduated a little over a year ago. Her job managing the day-to-day operations (and all the menial jobs at the library - like Marten's) were once filled only with students, but because of problems they've had with student employees in the past (such as a certain trustee's daughter passing out naked and drunk on the copy machine), they started looking outside the student body, beginning with Marten. And Tai seems to be doing a good job running things, so it would be counter-productive to have to train someone else to replace her - even Marten, who probably has the most experience next to her.

Brad Knowles

CBT == Computer Based Training, right? Yeah, you definitely don't want to be caught doing that.... ;)
