And for god’s sake put your tongue in your mouth

Miyaa

Funny, and I was watching some YouTube videos about making sinks out of stone. With a diamond cutting blade. That’ll be Sam’s project in 9 months

Andrew

Geez, she’s got it easy. For Luke’s training he had to have the blast shield covering his eyes.

Grace Kieser

I think Sam needs some more instruction on shop safety...

darklion

That's a Michael Jordan tongue. Watch out or she'll dunk on you.

Will Weaver

Having done shop work in the past I’m absolutely dying here.

BobC

Teach her about vices first! No, wait... Ummm...

Failure to clamp a workpiece is a very easy mistake to make as a beginner. Also a very expensive one, in terms of blood and/or dollars.

Ian Wolfe

She should really put on some gloves, too. Metal dust isn't exactly great for one's skin.

I'm glad she's wearing a safety helmet. I've seen a safety helmet and facemask at one site where I worked. There was a chunk of iron embedded in the mask, something blew up on the lathe. The sign read: "Wear your safety gear or we WILL fire you before you get killed."

Anonymous

Huh. I thought it was spelled vise, but apparently both are valid. Learned something new.

I wear a hard hat when doing tree work. When I worked for a tree service, if you didn't have your hard hat and glasses on at all times, you were in serious trouble. You only got one warning... ever. Two safety violations and you were gone. It didn't matter if the violations were six months apart. I don't often wear a full face-mask at home (depends on what I'm working on), but I always wear safety glasses - no matter what I'm working with. I had a chunk of wood fly up from my table saw and it actually cracked the lens of my glasses (I returned them and the store replaced them for free). Your eyes are irreplaceable.

It is well-established that OH&S is completely unknown in the Star Wars universe.

Eh, gloves are actually worse for machining. You lose a lot of dexterity.

Danya Michael

If the shop ever needs another revenue stream, they can offer classes/summer camps. Lol.

Man Bubbles addition to Faye's thing really brings the whole thing together, which sums up my life

Aeryn Monet

Usually I would agree, but she is using a hand dremel. You can put it in a vise, but for smoothing a rounded surface you kind of want it free in your hand to rotate it. It isn't like it is an unwieldy piece either, best advice I would have is that she should take it to a workbench and maybe sit down.

Sam and teenage me have a lot in common.

Paul Grodt

While the vice is a magical tool, calm down, it's just a dremel with a sanding attachment. You're a good person for caring about safety. Meanwhile, kiddo is my favorite character in this strip. She has been since always.

Ben Russell-Gough

Okay, Faye clearly has to work a little at her training skills! Meanwhile, Sam is SUCH a teenager here. She naturally thinks's she's automatically ready and able to use the big, sexy tools without any training or preparation. All this ground-work is just a boring imposition for her!

You're right, at least in the US. Vice is used by everybody else but we use vise for the clamp and vice for an undesirable trait (like gluttony)

allanfranta

Sam needs to spray her helmet...

Karyl

should the word be vise?

ysth

It looks just like a Telefunken U47

Thomas Howlett

With that imagery and wording, all I could think about was youtubes AvE!
