School Reunion, part 5 - Sketches (Patreon)

It took me a little while to settle on the best angle to depict this scene at. Fat men in baths are still quite tricky for me to draw! Funny how they seem to keep cropping up in stories here lately haha. 

Ultimately I went with the side view because I wanted to 'crunch' the image together - the out-of-focus candles and cigar in the foreground and the bathroom interior in the background - to simulate the feeling of a wide-angle lens and create a cosier feeling scene. I wanted the bathroom to feel like a smaller room to help the feeling of intimacy here. And I also opted for softer, more diffuse brushes for the shading which is a technique I employ for things like candlelight. It also helps to soften the mood of an image.
