So as you may know, the house I live in belongs to my mother and she put it on the market a few months ago and we had 8 very good offers, one which we accepted.

Even though the buyers offered less money then the other families, this family was being kicked out of their current rental because the house was sold from under them in the middle of the school year and I felt so sorry for them I talked my family into taking their offer which also included a 2 month rent back that would take me to the end of July as opposed to the May 12th closing (as you remember, I get VERY busy in May and June in my business). By the way... all of the offers included a rent back clause for the suite downstairs.

Ten days before the closing day, they finally gave me a tenancy agreement and apparently they hired some lawyers to craft it in such a way that I would be crazy to sign it but still within the scope of the contract we signed when we sold the house to them. They literally used lawyer tricks to make sure I do not rent the suite from them.

I feel so betrayed by these people.

Now I have under two weeks to find a new place to live and something that usually takes months I have to do in days.

What a bunch of back stabbing low lives! Btw, One is a University professor and another is a veterinarian so I assumed I was dealing with good people.

I just want to cry!

Do they not realize what they've done by this? Perhaps it's just the lawyers using what they claim as standard legalize. If they did this intentionally, that's just low.

I excused it as a misunderstanding as they communicated with me three times. Each time they told me they will accommodate me, then they will send me a document stating the opposite and adding more conditions. Ironically we were going to use their agent to sell our house and while he was trying to get our business, he said we should add a rent back request to any prospective buyers. When he was on the other side wanting to buy our house for his clients, they offered me a rent back. He fully knew my situation regarding my business, the cat, my car, I smoke, I work weekends and I need use of the workshop. All things conveniently were explicitly written as “Not allowed” in their new agreement. The last straw was that in the purchase contract they signed for the house, they stated that will rent the downstairs to me for a maximum of 60 days at $50 a day. When they presented the tenancy agreement it stated that no matter how long I stay in the suite (even if it’s one day) I owe them the full $3000 ($50/day for 60 days).

Actually, when they submitted their offer, they send me a photo of them and their family basically stating the crisis their family was in and asked for our family’s help. We took their lower offer because of that.
