Help with puppy biting

Thank you for the video Zak! We have an 11-week old pup, and thanks to your videos are starting to get her biting under control. However, we are still having some trouble dealing with her chewing on unwanted objects in the house. When we aren't engaged with her, or sometimes even in the middle of a play session, she will break off and start chewing on the couch. We can usually redirect her with a toy, but as soon as the toy stops moving she goes right back to the furniture. Is all this redirecting rewarding her unwanted behavior with attention, or do we just stay the course and keep distracting her every time?

Good question. You are in the "communication building phase". In order to offset the lack of communication between you two right now, controlling the environment is extra crucial. Leash your puppy at all times while inside or give her 100% of your attention when she is off leash. Right now, she may not have access to things that are not to be chewed. Puppies are lots of work! Congrats on your new dog BTW!

Thanks for the response Zak. We'll give this a shot and will keep building communication. Your book, videos and advice are very appreciated!

Hi Zak! We have a 1.5-year-old rescue. She is a husky/Shepard mix. She bites just like a puppy, but she's 60lbs! As you can imagine this makes it a little harder to be patient with her, because she actually can hurt us from time to time, especially if she is excited. The mouthyness is especially hard when we are playing. I am trying to teach her fetch, and we are on the chase stage. But she chases me down with an open mouth and clamps down on my arm or leg. We have tried the techniques you speak about in your videos with puppies, but do you have any advice on working with puppy biting on a bigger dog?
