What do you think about reprimanding a dog when it protects its toy by growling at another dog trying to steal it? For example, at the park my dog may be laying by me taking a break with her toy next to her or in her mouth and if another dog comes and clearly is trying to take it she may bark at them or hold the ball in her mouth and growl in a semi defensive stance. Dog fights/attacks don't come from it, and she's clearly just asserting that the toy is hers and she would like to keep it that way. I don't interpret this as bad behavior since it never escalates/I intervene if the dog doesn't stop bothering her but I see other people yell at their dogs or flip them over etc to get them to stop the possessive behavior. I don't know... seems like it should be okay to tell someone to leave whats yours alone!
