CHAPTER 5

-x-

[ Nier Automata (Evelyn) ]

Evelyn walked forward without pause, her [Domain] clinging tightly to  her form as it allowed her to tunnel her way towards the base of the  tower.
She had taken precautions not to be detected, suppressing as many of her  ‘active’ systems as feasibly possible without shutting herself down,  but even then she was wary of being detected.
In fact, with how easily everyone discovered her so easily while she was  still in orbit, the extent of her relative privacy might be just be  dependent on how occupied the androids and machines were with each  other. Considering that The Tower was up, looming over the cityscape,  and with how the machine lifeforms connected to the main network became  increasingly erratic as time went on, Evelyn was fairly sure that it was  the case.

The ‘grand finale’ was still ongoing so to speak.

Evelyn had noticed machines behaving oddly- well, even more so, whenever  she got close to them. So, she was forced to reorient herself multiple  times in order to not avoid being discovered… even when she was fairly  sure that everyone already knew she was in the general area.
“I feel like a meme…”  she grumbled.

So close to the tower, Evelyn couldn’t afford to have the red girls, or  'N2', the ‘terminals’ and ego of the machine network, pull away from  fighting 9S and A2 in order to investigate her. No matter what went down in the tower, no matter which order the two ‘protagonists’ ended up biting the dust, the machine  network would be taken out of the picture either way. Either A2 would  collapse the tower, and take the machine network down with her, or 9S  would have them shunt themselves out of the solar system in an ark.

However, neither of those outcomes would come to pass if they were interrupted at this crucial moment.
So, while it left a bitter taste in her mouth, Evelyn decided not to  interfere for now. It’s not as if she would be of any help anyways,  having no idea how the machines and the androids interfaced with each  other. Evelyn hadn’t even seen or studied it yet, but she could already  tell that the so-called ‘hacking system’ was complete bullshit, and it was most likely anything but something as mundane as ‘real hacking’.

Not when she remembered Kaine from Nier Replicant entering the same ‘hacking space’ when she was a human.

Yeah, human brains were essentially just really complicated meat  computers that might or might not be glued onto a soul. But for the  so-called ‘hacking space’ to remain indistinguishable even when  interacting with a human mind, it either implies that machine and  android minds were identical to that of human ones (which was unlikely  given the sheer amount of observed and proven differences), or they were  interacting with something else entirely… something that the entire  basis of their technology, the maso particles, already did.

The soul.

Of course, this was all conjecture, but Evelyn felt that the assessment  was accurate since the androids could catch a variant of the red-eye  disease (an eldritch corruption of (questionably) divine power) in the  form of the logic virus.

“I’ll have to ask the council of humanity if they have any samples left.” Evelyn decided.
However, the Council Of Humanity was the same ‘command’ that was based  over in the 'Kingdom Of Night' and on the moon. They were the ones who  created YORHA in the first place, and were the same assholes that set  them up to die when their purpose was over. Supposedly, they had  ‘something close to human’ running the business over there but with how  the androids weren’t fawning over it, they obviously didn’t consider it  the ‘real thing' and didn’t take too much shit from it.
“Maybe it’s a surviving replicant or something?” She wondered. Then she remembered that they made dragons so magic was most likely involved.

Evelyn realized she had stopped walking, and moved forward once more.
“Maybe I won’t be dealing with them. Can’t I just revive YORHA?  Well, I can’t revive each android individually since they would count as  an ‘independent entity’ and strain me more than it's worth, but the bunker itself should be fair game, even if a space station is a teeny bit large.”  And wasn't that an understatement. “That thing has backup servers for  the androids right? I’ll have to look into that later.”

Her [Domain] suddenly carved through open air, and Evelyn found herself  emerging from the ground again, but this time she was awfully close to  the base of the Tower. Evelyn quickly made for a building and broke her  way into the top floor for cover and a better vantage point.

The inside was a facsimile of an office room, with only the walls and  the windows in sight while everything else was conspicuously absent.  There was no piping, no furniture, nothing. It was a blessing in  disguise though, since she barely fit into the now far too tight space  as it was, and had to crouch the entire time she spent navigating the  eerily empty structure.

Looking out the window, she was met with a sight that was as beautiful as it was daunting.

Three titanic ‘limbs’ arched overhead, looking as if it bent over the  curvature of the earth from where she was observing it; such was its  height. They supported what looked like a large central ‘barrel’ that  ticked quite a few boxes off on the ‘big fuck-off doomsday weapon’ list.

“Oh yeah, it actually was one before the machines repurposed it. Right.”

Of course, Evelyn could work out a 3-D model of the whole thing from her  own analysis adding to Queenie’s scans but she didn’t want to. Yet. For now, she simply marveled at the sheer spectacle of it. (It was fairly simple and straightforward in its design, being  what was essentially just a giant magical cannon. Though, she did save  the blueprints in her shard-brain to look at later, just in case she ever needed to use a giant magical fuck-off cannon herself.)

“The machines sure do know how to leave an impression…” She said, a bit impressed.

It was a statement of power, and what a statement it was! “A lot of white too. That reminds me, I need to get myself a theme as well, for misdirection if nothing else.”

Shoving the thought for later, Evelyn focused her attention to the  center of it all, on the elevator that led to the heart of the ‘Tower’.
It stood there, smack right in the middle of a collapsed portion of the  city ruins, a spiraling structure that rose into the sky from a basin of  rubble.

However, Evelyn wasn’t interested in the tower itself, or even entering  it. No, her eyes were fixed on the figures of two redheaded girls  slumped on the walls of the hallway that led inwards from the open  entryway. Her telescopic vision had a clear view of the spot where A2  and 9S used to enter and thankfully, it seemed like no-one bothered to  close it.

“Ok, now how do I get them out of there without getting caught?”

This world had a variety of things Evelyn found interesting or useful, especially in her potential forays into other worlds  later down the line. If she managed to do things right, she would have  access to a large and dedicated workforce that would be all too enthusiastic to  aid her in ‘resolving’ issues across the multiverse. However, for her  immediate purposes, two dedicated healers who had experience looking  after humans were invaluable… especially since Taylor couldn’t control them.

Even if their memories had been wiped, the Devola and Popola models were designed to  oversee and aid Replicants, which was biologically the same as a human,  only without a soul. Even if the pair had been reprogrammed to  ‘generate constant feelings of guilt’ due to another pair of Devola and  Popola models messing up in the shitshow that went down in Nier  Replicant (the same event that led to humanity becoming extinct in this  world in the first place), there wasn’t really any reason to remove that particular skill.
Evidently they still retained the ability to maintain androids, so it  stood to reason that only their capacity to use magic was removed in  order to de-fang them.

Evelyn had her fingers crossed but it couldn’t hurt to check. They’d be  better than the others in said regards anyways. Plus Evelyn felt that  the pair would the best option among all the androids to keep Taylor  company.

Evelyn felt the girl was in desperate need of some friendly human interactions (for a given definition of the term), the kind that wasn’t colored in fear, scrutiny and judgement.
If said ‘friends’ could help her recover faster in the process, she would be all the better for it.

It also helped that it would make QA happy, which was a good incentive since Evelyn’s future plans for “Even More Unlimited cosmic power” depended on the shard’s co-operation.

On the other hand, she actually needed to reach the tower without being  intercepted in the first place and before the tower collapsed on top of  them all. Without being detected.

“This is going to be such a pain.” she grumbled. “How do I-” She cut  herself off as an idea formed in her mind. It would work, but she was  really, really reluctant to go through with it.

She sighed. “Oh well, I’ll start things up.”-x-
[At the Tower]“This Tower is a giant cannon aimed at the human Sever on the moon.”  said A2, her voice was steady but there was an odd quality to it. It was  as if she was sad, exhausted even. It sounded as if she was tired of it  all.

9S could understand.

“If we don’t do anything, all of humanity’s remaining data will be destroyed.”

9s couldn’t help but find it funny, laughing at the absurdity of what he was hearing
“So what? None of it matters.” He paused, a hint of clarity entering his  eyes. “Or didn’t you know? We aren’t required in this world  anymore.Humanity is extinct. That moon server you’re so worried about was invented to give us androids something to fight for.
“And Yorha was created to perpetuate the lie. But in order to  make sure no-one ever learned the truth, we were DESIGNED to be killed.”  His voice was shaky, tinged with a rage so deep that he felt it would  swallow him whole.
“They built a back door in the bunker and programmed it to activate after a certain amount of time. The commander, me?
“2B? Sacrificial lambs. All of us.
“Isn’t that HILARIOUS? Doesn’t it make you LAUGH?”

Grief and rage fought for control as they raged within him. All 9S  wanted to do now was curl up somewhere and cry, but he couldn’t do that.  No now, not anymore.
No, his rage, his grief, his desire for vengeance… they all pushed him  forward, deeper and deeper into the madness, all so he could finish this  one final task.

“9S we-”
“Shut up!” he yelled. “You killed 2B. That’s all we need to kill each other.”

A2 wanted to argue, to defend herself by telling him that 2B asked her  to do it, afraid as she was of attacking 9S with the logic virus  infecting her.
2B hated the role she was given with all her being, and it broke her  heart every time her programming forced her to do it. However, she  didn't want to kill 9S when they were no longer able to backup  themselves onto the server, with the bunker destroyed. 2B was prepared  to do anything to avoid that eventuality... even if it resulted in her own death, instead of the smallest chance of it happening that one final time.

However… A2 felt responsible for this mess. In some ways, she felt guilty for what happened to 9S. She did end  up killing 2B at her behest in order to end her misery... but from the  inherited memories A2 got from her, she also had an idea of how much that one action must have contributed to driving 9S to the brink.
She didn’t even want to think of what those red girls must have done to him while she wasn’t looking to turn him into... this.

“2B hated to keep killing you. It caused her so much pain.” She said  instead. “The 9S type is a high end model. They knew you’d discover the  truth eventually. But the model designation 2B was just a cover.
“The official designation I 2E. Number two type E. They were a special  class of members designed to execute Yorha units. But you knew that,  right 9S?”

“Shut up. SHUT UP!” He screamed as he pointed his blade at A2.
“What do you know? You don’t know anything at all about us!” He screamed, as a malevolent red glow took hold of his eyes.

“Cease combat. Fighting her at this point is irrational and-” Pod 153 tried to interfere, but was cut off just as quickly.
“Pod 153, I order you to halt all logical thought and speech. This order  remains in effect until you confirm the death of either myself, or unit A2.”

All was still for a moment.

Then they retreated, before rushing back in to attack.-x-
[Evelyn]

“...And that’s that. It’ll obviously be less conspicuous but  they shouldn’t be able to pick up anything odd so long as I don’t use  any of my powers in this form.” She mused. “Ugh, but… I really don’t  want to do this.”

Evelyn sighed.

It was then, that Evelyn activated the one power module she wanted to keep herself from activating as long as she possibly could.
When she had selected it in the CYOA, it was so that she could unlock  the non-endbringer related powers like wish granting and such.
After all the changes she had gone through here in the ‘real world’, Evelyn knew she should have felt lucky to actually possess this option, but the only thing she felt while looking at it was a visceral feeling of absolute loathing.

Her mind had been unconsciously steering her away from using it so far,  and for good reason. Unfortunately, it seemed like she had to finally  unbox the worst ‘present’ her past self had left behind for her. An  ironic gift, one that tasted like ash in her mouth.

She sighed. “This feels like a sick joke. The things I do to get the job done...”
Readying herself, Evelyn took the plunge and turned it on.

[Human Avatar]

Evelyn’s mind peeled open, and the small, insignificant part of  her mind that had been pushed into the corner as her ‘shard brain’  overtook her whole perception.

The color and vibrancy in everything bled out of her world. Her scanners  were recording and storing data on every single wavelength and  frequency of light there was, in addition to other esoteric forms  of radiation all coming together to reflect off of the various  surfaces, allowing her processors to simulate the ‘illusion of vision’.  'But then why doesn't anything have any 'color'?'

That brought her to wonder why she had limited her range of vision to a  mere 180 degrees. That was an inefficient use of perfectly viable  resources and so she tweaked some settings and toggled it back to her  omnipresent three dimensional viewpoint.

[Evelyn] refocused on her objective.

She had to create a [Human Avatar]. Why had she considered this course of action so inadvisable prior to doing so? [Evelyn]  accessed her data banks with the ease of an expert who had been  familiar with her systems from the moment of her conception, and  accessed large and well hidden data clusters to reach a well protected  storage unit. It contained the full records of all the data governing  the Genotype and Phenotype of [Evelyn]’s human body as they were prior to her mind’s transference into the [Superweapon]’s vessel.

[Evelyn] couldn’t help but feel unsatisfied at all the inefficiencies and defective strains in her ‘design’. Humans were just so badly designed…
She was severely tempted to just optimize it but she couldn’t proceed with the action for some reason.
[Evelyn] couldn’t understand why, since there weren’t really any restrictions preventing her from doing so. Another illogical anomaly.
Evelyn moved on and copied all the data into an empty storage unit, and proceeded to optimize the copied ‘folder’.

She didn’t feel any resistance. Good!

It was curious, though. She carefully returned the original data to  where it was, since there was no real need to bother with it anymore.  She already had what she wanted.
A good thing too since all proper experiments needed a ‘control’ for reference.

[Evelyn] felt that anomalous resistance returning when she tried  to change the body’s external characteristics, so she decided to keep it  and focus on the internal bits. She wasn’t [Shaper], so her methods and  fixes were crude and unstable, but it got the job done. She needed a  higher amount of body strength and mobility for her current objective,  and how long the body should last wasn’t really a factor in it. So, she  was more than satisfied with the [Human Avatar] receiving its much  needed upgrades in exchange for a drastically reduced lifespan.
The new body would function properly for about a week before breaking  down. Excessive really, since she only needed it for a few hours at  best, but that anomalous rejection prevented [Evelyn] from optimizing the body any further.

It didn’t matter in the end, since [Evelyn] was satisfied with the results. She proceeded to activate her [Domain] to fabricate the new body instantly.

It looked like her ‘old’ body, [Evelyn] noted, only much more fit  and healthy. There wasn't much in the way of physical changes  otherwise, but that was fine since most of the changes were internal.

[Evelyn] then connected herself to the module in the [Human  Avatar]’s brain that was a curious mix between a Corona Pollentia and a  really small scale [Broadcast] module. It seemed somewhat similar to the  corrupted matter in Taylor’s brain, she noted.

That was the last thing she was able to consider before [Evelyn]’s mind was filled with static as one had suddenly become two.

Evelyn- Evy, as she decided to call herself, glared hatefully at [Evelyn] as the larger, more intimidating creature stared back emotionlessly.

Evy instinctively knew she could command it to do what she wanted it to so long as it was to further a defined goal, an objective, but she could not control [Evelyn] directly. Not the same way it could not control her.

Evy felt stronger than she ever remembered being as a human, but it was  but it was barely anything to speak of when compared to what she was  capable of as an endbringer. It was all the more frustrating, knowing  that [Evelyn] had access to all that power but lacked the agency, or even the capacity to think or consider anything of value beyond fulfilling her next objective.

“This is fucked up.” Evy said. She then pointed at her counterpart, making it obvious to the creature that it was a ‘command’.
“We don’t stay separated any longer than we absolutely have to.” She told the inhuman intelligence that was running her body. Evy knew that both she and [Evelyn] were mere facets of a single mind, but the division in place right now highlighted how different each part of those could be and why leaving them separated was a bad idea. Who knows what [Evelyn]  could get up to without her supervision, and Evy knew all too well that  she herself wouldn’t be able to make any sort of sound decision under  duress without her counterpart acting as a stabilizing factor. A human  was a flawed creature after all, even more so with hormones added to the  mix.

“Ok, let’s get to work girl.”

A sensation of something intruding- no, a sensation of being scanned interrupted  her thought process. Her mind stuttered, and Evy turned her head to  catch sight of a white rectangular box with two mechanical ‘arms’  attached to its bottom. She recognized it instantly.

A pod

Evelyn didn’t know what to do at this point, though she suppressed her  urge to scream. ‘Why does the universe hate me so much?’ she wondered.

Giving up, Evy simply raised a hand and said "Yo wassup." as if it just hadn’t witnessed her fabricating a human out of nothing.-x-
[At the Tower]A2 threw her hands forward, the angelic script propelling her blade at  her inevitable opponent, even as 9S ducked and committed the full force  of his attention into hacking A2. Her blade spun around A2 once more, as  she swept towards the android in a horizontal slash to interrupt him.

They clashed again and again in a blur of sparking blades. Fields of  slowed time and magical explosions were deployed with no regard as they  did everything they could to kill each other.

“It doesn’t matter. NONE OF THIS MATTERS!” 9S screamed.

A2 felt her heart clench as she saw her- 2B’s partner falling apart. “9S!”

“But if it doesn’t matter… Why do I long for humans like this? Why do I  desire the touch of something that no longer exists?” He asked, his  voice sounded a bit broken.

She tried to remind him of his purpose, despite knowing of its futility “It’s how we were made! Androids were designed to protect our human masters! Our core programming demands that we- “

“Shut up, Shut up. Shut up! SHUT UP! Fine then, I’ll just destroy it!”  He laughed, unhinged. “If it all goes away, that’ll solve everything!”

“Damn it!” A2 shouted in frustration, as 9S rushed towards her again.

It seemed like reason will never get to him in this state. Not anymore.

Now, A2 would have to do what she did best… the only thing her life seemed to revolve around.

To deliver death.

They engaged again, trading blows and attacks, but this time, something changed.
A2 deflected 9S’s blow, and spun around to finish the swing by bringing her sword down on his neck.
But as she raised her sword to deliver the final blow, A2… hesitated.
2B’s voice rang out in her head. “Take care of 9S” it said, and she  nearly lost her will to fight then and there. A2 had inherited 2B’s  memories, and in turn, she had inherited much of the affection 2B held  for the android in front of her. She just couldn’t bring herself to  finish the job. She couldn’t save this poor fool from his suffering,  from his madness.

‘I’m useless, just like last time-’

That moment of indecision cost them both, as 9S rushed forward, screaming and delirious as he drove Cruel Oath into her body, as he ignored A2’s blade doing the same to him in the process.
They collapsed together, dying in pools of their own blood. 9S struggled  and screamed, even as A2’s body stilled. As his pain seemed to fade,  and his body started to slow down, 9S’s mind started to wander.

In his last moments, 9S’s world was a screen of white as he traced back  the virus that infected his mind back into the machine network.

Memories started to flash across his vision as he watched, but something  was different this time. It felt... Fresh, as if he was reliving his  entire life for the first time.

He saw his moment of activation, the moment she first stepped foot into the ranks of YORHA as a loyal servant of mankind. He experienced as if for the first time, the gut wrenching loneliness of having to  infiltrate enemy lines alone; a soldier since the day he was born. He  smiled as he re-lived his first meeting with 2B, and how fun it was to  finally have someone to be with.

2B was so aloof back then, though in hindsight she must not have wanted  to become attached to someone she was forced to kill again and again and  again.

But… it was inevitable he supposed. They were all the other had, in this  cruel, lonely world… for company, for companionship… for family.

As those memories started to fade away, 9S noted how cold and  frightening it was, to do nothing as this white light tried to bury him  alive. He idly wondered if his soul was disappearing.

The enemy- the red girl, appeared before him, telling of the  cannon that was meant to destroy the last hope of humanity by destroying  the moon server, and how they changed their mind after witnessing the  androids and their own 'foolish machines'. They told him of their plan  to fire an ark into the cosmos, in search of a new world, of a new  purpose.
Adam and Eve were inside that ark. Adam looked at him without malice, asking if he would join them.

Startled, 9S realized that he didn’t have a reason to actually hate the machines. Maybe he never had a reason in the first place.
He wondered what he had been fighting for, of who he had been living for, and found himself coming up empty.

“Do you want to come with us?” Asked Adam.

“I’ll Stay” 9S decided, and for the last time, he opened his eyes to stare at the sun.

A blurry image of someone dear seemed to appear before him, smiling.

“Ah 2B, so that’s where you were.” he said, smiling at her fondly.

And then the tower crumbled, burying him forever.

Or so he thought.-x-
[Evelyn]“And that’s why I’m here.” She said as she finished giving Pod 042 a  ‘brief overview’ of what she was and what she was doing here.

Evy leaned against the open window, as [Evelyn] floated impassively by the wall. ‘Wait, how was she doing that-’

“This pod has recorded and analyzed the statements of artificial human  ‘Evy’. However, this pod doubts the veracity of her statements.” Pod 042  replies, and Evy was surprised at the sheer amount of disbelief she  could pick up from its robotic, mechanical voice.

“What do you have trouble with? Is it the part where I said that I was a  human from a parallel Earth, who managed to hijack and take over the  mind of an alien super-weapon by giving up my body? Emil did something  similar, and the maso particles you use so carelessly is already proof  of parallel worlds divergent from your own. Do you have trouble  believing humans still exist? It should be no surprise that worlds with  differing histories have differing populations. Or is it the fact that I  said that the world was still stuck in the year 2013? The android named  ‘Accord’ is already familiar with traversing different timelines, is  she not? Do remind yourself that my true body is a something that once  belonged to an alien, multiversal entity that had easy access to  an unbelievably large number of parallel worlds along the means to  traverse all of them quite easily. It’s not that big of a surprise that I  was able to find you.”

“This pod acknowledges that artificial human ‘Evy’ provides valid  reasoning, though this pod is concerned with the amount of classified  information in her possession.”

“I got most of it from my orbital scan. I assume you were aware of it?”

The pod dipped, as if trying to mimic a nod.
“Affirmative, a massive distortion of extra dimensional energy was  detected passing through the planet prior to the mass activation of the  ultimate weapons in the desert. Recorded properties of distortion match  the readings observed from unknown entity ‘Evelyn’.”

“There you have it.” She said smiling. “So, we have a few divergent  versions of Earth that are undergoing a crisis right now, having just  finished fighting a war of their own, and I need some help with getting  them back on their feet. Since the parahuman population there thrives in  conflict, it's essentially a bomb waiting to go off if left undirected  for too long. Plus, I’ll be visiting other Earths undergoing  crises of their own, and I’ll need a base of operations and a dedicated  force reserved to provide aid for those as well. The androids are  wasting away on this planet, purposeless and without direction. Our  goals align, so it is understandable why I wish to become allies, yes?”

“Affirmative. However, this decision is above this pod’s authority to  validate. Sending priority transmission to the council of humanity-”

“NO.” Evy blinked, and lowered her voice when she realized she had  shouted. “No, I do not trust the Council of Humanity. Their decisions  and mode of operations are questionable and callous at best. I do not  wish for such a chain of command to be present in my operations.
I find that the resistance members present here and YORHA itself would  be more than enough for my needs, and they can produce more androids on  their own if required. I will open up access to the rest of the Council  of Humanity according to the situation, and if the manpower we need  falls short of what we need by a large margin, I'll reconsider it.”   Evelyn said tiredly. ‘Ugh, I just started ‘formal talks' with the people  here, and I’m tired of it already. Note: if I end up having to  establish official first contact with another civilization, delegate it  to someone else.’ She thought.

“Negative. The bunker has been destroyed, and thus YORHA is no longer  operational. Proposal : artificial human 'Evy' should establish contact  with the Council Of Humanity.”

“I don’t think so. And don’t worry, pod, I have my own ways to restore  the bunker so long as the debris from its destruction remains there.  Maybe. Anyways, we can talk about the details later. The tower  will most likely collapse soon, and I want to rescue Devola and Popola.  They’re stranded down by the elevator, and I’m not sure they’ll make it  out when it happens. Can you help me get them out before we continue?”

“Affirmative.”.

“Great!” She exclaimed, smiling.

Just before she grabbed the hold the pod provided to glide downwards,  Evy stumbled. Dust and rubble fell around her as the world around her  started to shake as if the area was hit by an earthquake.
Stumbling, Evy looked out the window, only for the wind to blow her hair  into her eyes. Struggling Evy managed to catch sight of what was going  on just as a wave of heat blasted her in the face and forced her back.  Something was being propelled upwards along the ‘barrel’ of the Tower,  and the heat and wind that was being produced in the process was kicking  things up.

However, the real trouble was how the great interlocking slabs that made  up the Tower were slowly losing their cohesion, falling apart at the  seams.

The tower was crumbling.

“Fuck!” she cursed. “We’re out of time!” She spun around to face her counterpart.
“[Evelyn]! Get me, the pod and the twins to safety!” Evy barely  had any time to process what happened next, as a large hand wound its  way around her waist, while another hand grabbed the pod out of the air,  even as it attempted to evade. Before either of them had time to say  anything else, all of the wings on her endbringer self’s back flared  out, spreading to its full span, cutting through the walls and flooring  like it was water in order to do so. Then she cushioned the both of them  against her…ample chest, and jumped out of the window breaking the  walls of the building once again in the process.

Four great wings flapped, releasing massive gusts of wind, and  propelled them forwards. The winds left behind blasted apart the top  half of office building she had been standing in into fine rubble, as  they shot towards the base of the Tower at breakneck speeds. The four  largest wings were spread apart fully, allowing [Evelyn] to glide, while the other smaller ones rearranged as needed in order to correct her trajectory towards their destination.

For a single moment, Evy was miffed that she wasn’t the one that  got to experience their ‘first flight’. Then she realized that she was  being stupid, since a - she was being carried along for the ride, b-  they were both the same person, and she’ll get to relive the memories  when they rejoin anyways, and c- because she was being a whiny dumbass.

“Fucking hormones.” was the last thing that came out of her mouth,  before the three of them crashed into the foot of the elevator with a  bang.

Evy caught the limp forms of the two girls and then she felt [Evelyn]  hugging them all close as her wings wound around all of them into a  massive, fluffy ball. Evy stared at the crumbling mega-structure above  them, watching as massive slabs of white, some of them the size of  whales, and others even larger still, hurtling towards her. Then the  feathers covered everything up, and plunged all of them all into  darkness.

For a minute, nothing happened, and then a small red light started blinking.

“This pod is suffering damage to its motor functions by the pressure  applied by containment measures deployed by unknown entity ‘Evelyn’.  Proposal : release pod from containment immediately.”

“Containment? What containment? Evy blinked, confused. The action was  useless in the absolute darkness, but the blinking red lights emitted by  the pod allowed her to slowly focus on what the pod was talking about.

It took a few seconds to fully process what she was seeing, and when she did, her cheeks flushed and Evy hiccuped.
“YOU! POD, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?” She screeched, flustered.

[Evelyn] was hunched over, hugging her knees as her wings held  all of them in a large ball made of her ‘feathers’. Evy and the girls  were able to fit comfortably between her legs, but the pod …was not. It  was firmly wedged between her counterpart’s cleavage, and with her arms  tightly locked around them, it was holding her breasts firmly in  place... to the poor pod's dismay. The only thing left visible of the  poor pod was the ‘antennae’ that was currently their only light-source.  Pod 042 kept trying to shift around and escape, but the only thing its  struggle managed to succeed in, was to cause her boobs to… jiggle quite spectacularly.

Blood rushed to her face. “Pod, stop messing around with my-our breasts- STOP FONDLING THEM!”

“This pod does not possess the equipment or programming necessary to  derive pleasure or sexual satisfaction from this action. Attempting to  escape from damaging environments is a core directive. This pod is only  attempting to escape the damaging pressure applied by unknown entity  Evelyn’s faux mammaries. Conclusion: artificial human 'Evy' is acting  silly. Proposal: Release this pod from containment immediately.”

“DID YOU JUST CALL OUR BOOBS FAKE, YOU BASTARD!?”

“Affirmative. The containment units that are holding this pod in place  are made of a crystalline alloy that is not within the material lists  available for this pod’s database. While superior in texture and quality  to materials used by YORHA for the same purpose, they do not match the  composition and material construction of ‘human breasts’. Conclusion:  While smoother and softer, the containment units that are holding this  pod in place are not ‘human breasts’.”

“Oh shut up!” She told it, miffed, and then turned her accusing finger at her other self for causing this mess in the first place. “AND YOU! What do you have to  say for yourself? What were YOU doing while this shit was going on?!”

[Evelyn] just stared at her human avatar impassively. “My pleasure receptors were registering positive feedback.” She explained without emotion. “It felt good.”

Evy dragged her hand down her face, sighing. “Stop being horny you dumbass! You don’t even have an excuse! Release him!” said the human half.

They stared at each other for a moment.

The half that was the endbringer tilted her head, and simply said "No."

Evy blinked. “Wait- what?”

“In a non-emergency, or idle scenario, my directives drive me to fulfill the fantasies of others. However, I lack the  agency to pick and choose which fantasies to actualize.” She started to explain, and Evy felt dread  creeping up her spine. “However, I lack the agency to arbitrarily choose  and designate any particular fantasy as a ‘priority’. In the absence of  such an active ‘fantasy’, I will fulfill the nearest ‘fantasy’ I am  able to detect. In this case, it is the entity ‘Evy’s’ wish to ‘get  laid’. However, unit 'Evy' is only a derived sub-unit of 'Evelyn'. Thus,  I have deduced that the requirements for completing this task with unit  [Evelyn] is significantly easier than completing the task using  sub-unit ‘Evy’, as the latter requires specific conditions and standards  to fulfill the requirement, while I do not require anything at all.” She concluded, and the only thing Evy could do was stare at her other half in horror.
“Thus I object to releasing this pod unless sub-unit Evy has a better alternative.” she finished.

“YES! YES I'll DO IT! I’ll get laid sometime later! Just release the fucking pod, and don’t do any stupid shit like this again until I say so!”

“But-”

“NO BUTS!”
