Oh no Cody. Violence is not the answer.

Konran

Surprised Willy didn't lose a tooth there.

He could have snapped his neck with a slap that powerful

That pimp smack is devastating, It can change Willy perspective towards Cody. I hope both realize their act is wrong. Looks like Willy is knocked out cold.

HOLY SHIT THAT HIT LANDED HARD!! Oh Christ I hope Willy's okay 😢 I know he fucked up breaking the statuette, but god damn, Cody didn't have to hit him like that..

No one deserves to be hit; however, Willy did earn the verbal dressing down. They need to have a long heart-to-heart conversation after this and figure out their relationship. A part of me wonders if Willy wanted this to happen. He certainly set it up and knew which buttons to push, and he had to know Cody wouldn’t just sit there and take it. Maybe this was Willy acknowledging he was out of control (with jealousy, with superiority) and he wanted to be punished for it.

This comic is sneakily examining violence from a few perspectives. It’s come up a bunch but this is the most in your face!

Hmm, I'm going to sit on the fence with 'Yeah, he probably deserved that. But it probably didn't need to actually happen, y'know?' Unless Willy's really the sort of guy to not let up UNTIL he gets a proverbial kick in the head, and a literal pimpslap across the room. I'd wanna deck someone for breaking something precious of mine (wouldn't do it though, just makes it way worse. I hope he didnt die also D:)

He's not going to taste his herbal tea 🍵 for a few weeks.

While I do not think violence should happen within a romantic relationship, I do think Willy need a proverbial/literal smack in the face. Willy is someone who was quick to use violence to get his point across, but is protected because he is physically smaller than most and seen as someone in need of protecting. He needed to understand first hand (figuratively) how it feels to be on the receiving end of such behavior.

Would Cody have hit a woman? This isn't a "men's rights" comment but a sincere inquiry into the gendered nature of this kind of violence. I wonder if anyone saying "Willy deserved it" would say the same if he was a different gender. This was a really visceral, unpleasant page for me. Verbal abuse is abuse and causes real harm. I would like to see Willy come to terms with that. But physical abuse is still the most direct way to permanent injury or death and it's far too common. This felt like a really ugly scene of intimate partner violence—whether or not the boys would recognize it as such.
