Frankly, I think it's a good message. If you respond to an insult with an escalation like headbutting the offender you only make things worse. The more you escalate, the worse the consequences.

I wonder if Willy’s contempt is due to the priest’s subtle message to hide that part of himself, as if he invited that sort of bigotry by simply sketching a nude male like any other artist. His drawings weren’t the problem. I would’ve gotten in trouble for arguing with the priest, saying it was that guy’s choice to look at his sketches, which were private to begin with. I hope Willy isn’t discouraged. I know the priest meant well but his message missed the mark. Still … he wasn’t punished and that also speaks of the priest’s understanding. That final panel is a masterpiece of mixed emotions and a bitten tongue.

I’d say it’s definitely contempt, Willy is used to being looked down on in one way or another
