Poor baby. Des has a blunt way of speaking sometimes, but if I'm doing my job right, you understand he talks like this when he disconnects.

One interesting thing I've noticed is that people are usually willing to endure chronic pain rather than experience the brief but more intense pain of breaking away from a bad situation, even though chronic pain is withering.

This is a silly comic that won't explore that theme too deeply, but I wanted to examine it a little bit.

I'm not sure if it's stoic or a convoluted form of self-punishment. Enduring chronic pain just seems like the better option. It's not acceptance or giving up that makes it bearable, it's that sometimes it gets you, but it's rare. Sometimes, doing that is better than an intense while of deep pain that'll chew at core notions.
