Hello! Hope you are doing well and counting down the days and hours until the new battles is released. Not long now!! Here we have the latest MakeThisBattle feedback! The theme this time around was "Cartoon & Anime.

EpicLLOYD is your host so let's see what he thought of seven patron ideas...

Hercule Poirot vs Shaggy Rogers ft. Columbo [submitted by FoxDoc & thomasspaine]

Ahh a battle of the whacky inspectors. I get it :) I'm tempted to do this battle just to see Pete dressed up as Shaggy. That would be classic. Me as Columbo is pretty awesome too. I always loved that show. I'm not as amped on Poirot just cause he's more of a dope than a hero to me. But if we turned this into a big cavalcade I could see it working. What about Scoobs though? Can't have Shaggy without Scooby! Right?

Naruto vs Oda Nobunaga [submitted by Angemon44]

This is interesting. I always love taking something modern and pairing it with something historic. Especially when something is as pop culture as Naruto cause the fan following of that character can rope people in and then we have the ability to shine a little light on a potentially lesser known but important human from our own history. Japanese history is so deep and I really missed out on learning a lot of it in high school and college. It'd be fun to dive into the 1500's and the life of Nobunaga.   Having done many of these MTB feedbacks now, it's becoming more and more obvious to me that we should have had some sort of ERB Anime Division. I think maybe the characters from those worlds pair so well with a rap battle because of how combative the story's are. It makes sense. They fight with their fists and powers in those stories so it's fun to imagine them fighting with words as well.

Astro Boy vs Pinocchio [submitted by InsertUserName & Matthew Kitt]

This is an interesting connection. Two young boys trying to keep it real...get it?  Pinocchio I think is a widely beloved name and story and could carry the battle in terms of having a knowledge of the character. I really haven't heard too much about Astro Boy myself. Seems there's a movie and a series of popular comic books but will this resonate with the average person clicking on the video? I think I'd want some more actual history in the battle instead of two tales that aren't all that huge when it comes to eyeball draws.

Monkey D Luffy vs Jack Sparrow [submitted by James Whitney, Nick Z, Chicken McDoofus, TheRealSneakers & InsertUserName]

Man, this anime stuff is for real! I'm getting pulled in. Pirate vs Pirate. Straw Hat vs Jolly Roger hat. Ok. I'm a solid maybe. Jack Sparrow for sure. Having already done Blackbeard, if we were ever to do another pirate Sparrow would likely be the choice.  Iconic character played by an iconic actor leading movies that spanned over a decade. That's real. I'd be tempted to pull the trigger on this one just to see how much pull a huge anime favorite would get. I think back to Darwin vs Ash and while it wasn't our most popular battle, it is many people's favorite.  I just wonder if we play these animated characters as real humans or would it be cooler to actually have them drawn? Either way somebody get the rum ready!

Sailor Moon vs Neil Armstrong [submitted by theformerprez, MarblePipes, Tempest200 & CrabCakes125]

This is fun. Neil Armstrong is on a short list of people that I feel like are owed a spot in the series. Only problem is that he's so bland and calculated as a human. It was exactly what made him so damn effective as an astronaut but it will take a special performance to make him into an engaging battle rapper. I think pairing him against Sailor Moon would be a really nice way to soften the edges and add a bit of lovability to the match up. I dig it.

Light Yagami vs Maximilien Robespierre [submitted by CrabCakes125 & PrinceKovu]

Death note vs a guy who wrote so outspokenly that it eventually got him killed. I like how controversial Robespierre was. Almost an anti-hero who was as bad as he was good. The writing would have to be so stylized I think. That'd be a fun challenge.  I'm picturing like cursive lettering for the subtitles lol. Deathnote is just epic. Seems like the out would be obvious...someone gets a note. Right? It'd have to be done. If we ever wanted to match history with pop culture this would certainly be a strong choice.

Merlin & Arthur vs Rick & Morty [submitted by Neo! & DragonsBlood23]

Yay! Two sets of characters I know really well! Rick and Morty seem to be knocking on the door of the cartoon hall of fame. I think it'd be really fun for me and Pete to play these guys somehow. When we pair up it's always some of the most fun I have on set just cause we have the opportunity to play off of each other on camera.  Getting another YouTube pair would be fun for Merlin and Arthur. Rhett and link again? Take your pick, I think this battle could be huge.

Here is a few additional thoughts from our manager HeadMonk...

Oda Nobunaga has been creeping up my wish list for over a year. And there seems to be a few strong options for opponents. I think we can add Naruto to the list. I like the idea. I think if we do an Eastern historical character soon, I'd definitely like it to be Nobunaga. At Xmas I always buy a bunch of books and do deeper research on a few random characters. Nobunaga will certainly be one of them this year.

Robespierre is similarly someone who interests me. It seems like we can do him or Marie Antoinette (not both imho) and in the past I generally lean towards Marie. But teaming Robes with Light works well on paper. My one concern is whilst I loved Death Note, the character of Light wasn't that enthralling to me personality wise. He seemed more of a vehicle for the story, rather than a character I drew to love / hate or care much about. The story was more interesting than he was to me.

With Jack Sparrow I just think our portrayal of Blackbeard covered all those Pirate themed jokes. I dunno how excited I could get about Sparrow. We would have to be able to pull off a perfect portrayal similar to the quality of Peter's Austin Powers for me to be interested. But its a certainly a fun way to bring Monkey D Luffy into ERB.

======

A new round of MTB now begins! The theme this time is "Gods & Monsters".

For this theme lets think of powerful beings whether that be supernatural or scary, good or evil, or anything in between. Let's keep the theme loose and see what you can come up with.

You can of course always ignore the theme completely if you prefer. But, when selecting the match-ups for feedback we will select 2 or more suggestions that particularly suit the theme.

Same rules apply. Seven match-ups in total will be selected. A maximum of three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the ERB Discord server in the dedicated '#make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is... 5pm PT on Friday 11th November.

Pav

Hercules vs Tom Cruise Labors vs stunts

Jaime Martinez

Emperor Palpatine vs Chairman Mao

Case Aiken

Chiming in about Astro Boy! Astro Boy is considered one of, if not "the", first manga character and by extension was one of the foundations of early anime. This means that the two are both early popular entries in animation, east vs west! This would be a great one to do in animation if that were an option!

Zoey Taylor

Inspector Clouseau (The Pink Panther) vs. Inspector Javert (Les Miserables). One's a bumbling fool, the other is strait-laced and by-the-book to a fault. Also, they're both French!

boofgoblin

H.P Lovecraft vs Pope Francis

Zoey Taylor

Kevin Flynn (TRON) vs. Hatsune Miku (Vocaloid). Two different eras of depictions of digital space, one mysterious and terrifying, the other glamorous and inviting.

Brett Dorling

Sun Wukong Vs Caeser (Journey To The West Vs Planet Of The Apes) Reed Richards Vs Monkey D Luffy (Fantastic 4 Vs One Piece) Baphomet Vs Shiva (Occult Vs Hinduism)

Bubonic

King Midis (The Man who turns anything to hold by touch) vs Medusa (The woman who turns people to stone through sight)

Zoey Taylor

Hawley Griffin (The Invisible Man) vs. John Cena (WWE). You can't see them.

AJ Quenell

Rapunzel vs Medusa! Invisible Man vs John Cena Boris Karloff vs Johnny Depp

Michael Rose

R.L. Stine vs. H.P. Lovecraft Van Helsing vs. Blade Bloody Mary vs. Candyman

Charles Lee

Kratos vs Vegeta (both are warriors; one is a god, and one has ascended his power level to that of a god)

Charles Lee

Laurie Strode (Halloween) vs Sidney Prescott (Scream) Battle of the final girls

Mason Jar

Victor Frankenstein vs. Frank N Furter

Taylor Crain

my 3 MTB ideas this time are Bigfoot vs God, Arachne vs Venom vs D'Vorrah, and Princess Ariel vs Aphrodite

E.j. Pennine

Three suggestions: Hades (God) vs Batman (who was called Hades when Maximilian Zeus went insane in the animated series, also good to fix Batman after the disastrous Batman v Holmes rap), Mr Freeze (Batman) vs Ymir (father of frost giants, Norse mythology), Spawn (only if you can get Kieth David) vs Grim Reaper.

DCSoul

1. Beowulf vs Hercules(Heracles). A slight deviation from the gods vs monsters theme but they both slayed monsters and one is a demigod. 2. Thanatos(Greek Mythology) vs The Grim Reaper. 3. Alucard(Castlevania series) vs Ganon(Legend of Zelda series).

Leo M. R.

I think the feedback regarding the Luffy/Sparrow matchup focused too much on Jack Sparrow and/or the pirate angle, and not enough on Luffy. He's the protagonist of THE biggest manga of all time, guys. Literally, his series has sold almost as much as freaking BATMAN, and there's a 60-year gap between those two franchises! That's historic in its own right, and if you can see the value in Goku vs. Superman, you should see the value in Luffy vs. anyone.

Matthew Kitt

Mine would be: -Kratos (God Of War series) vs. Scorpion (Mortal Kombat series) -Genie (Aladdin/Disney) vs. Doctor Manhattan (Watchmen)

Austin Smith

I have no idea who he could go against, but Ben 10 just makes me happy

Kazuspowercoach

I’m not a big fan of battles where opponents are too similar (pirate Vs pirate). I liked Freud vs Teresa because that’s their essence (this life or the afterlife). I wouldn’t back Freud vs Jung for ex (because it’s too reductive).

Ddll

Guan Yu vs Ares Prometheus vs Zuko Homelander vs Patrick Bateman

Mason Jar

Richard Attenborough vs Victor Frankenstein

Charles Lee

Gomez Addams vs Herman Munster

Alvin Franco

I dig that totally. But at least this particular “pirate vs pirate” suggestion has drastically different characters. Live action vs anime, bumbling drunk vs ambitious hero, Johnny Depp’s Keith Richard impression vs Mr. Fantastic’s stretchy powers rip-off, and even real-world history setting vs fictional fantasy world setting. I do enjoy this idea!

Alvin Franco

Prometheus: “I’ll bring the fire IN YO FACE!!!”🔥 🔥 🔥

SalamanderKing

The best I have is Hephaestus vs Frank Lloyd Wright

Shawn Ravenfire

Dr. Frankenstein vs Dr. Moreau

B.M. Deadrock

Wednesday Addams vs. Sabrina Spellman

B.M. Deadrock

Geralt of Rivia vs. Newt Scamander

B.M. Deadrock

Peacemaker vs. Athena, Goddess of War!

Banana Man

The mask vs Beetlejuice

Matt Poynor

Chris Hansen vs The Predator

Vinny Prescelto

Howdy Ho! I've got no idea how but I'd love to see you tackle Pac-Man vs Theseus or the Minotaur Cause mazes

Alijah Khan

Aniken skywalker VS. Benito Mussolini. you should make this battle the prequel to the 1st Adolf VS. Vader. ending in Aniken turning into vader and brutally murdering spaghetti man. also loyd should totally play Mussolini.

Daniel Vieira

Sandman vs Amaterasu Tupã vs Odin Iemanja vs Poseidon

B.M. Deadrock

Spyro the dragon vs. Crash Bandicoot

Daniel Lee

One suggestion I have is Kratos vs Guan Yu, an epic battle between two men turned gods of war

Red Claw

Audrey II vs. Swamp Thing

Red Claw

Hercules vs Gilgamesh

Red Claw

Ramses II vs Gilgamesh

Juuso Kunelius

It would be great to see Shigeru Miyamoto in a rap battle. As far I've researched, many successful video game designers consider Miyamoto as their role model. Maybe Shigeru Miyamoto vs Gabe Newell, since Newell shook the digital distribution of video games by being the leader of Steam project? Both very powerful individuals in video game industry.

Alvin Franco

HERCULES vs SUN WUKONG vs MAUI. It’s East vs West, plus, everything in between. (Maui representing the entire Pacific Ocean, arguably the majority of the map. He’s the dominant Polynesian mythological figure, shared between almost all the island nations including New Zealand and Hawai’i, and made deservedly more relevant with Disney’s Moana.)

Gregory Rycerz

I just joined so hello and forgive me if this is debated elsewhere. Why not Rick & Morty VS Doc and Marty? Law suit worries or something? I mean that shit would be really, really epic.

Alvin Franco

Hey, welcome! Hope you enjoy! To answer your question, everything ERB does is considered “Fair Use” and really shouldn’t have anything to do with copyright issues. If there’s ANY reason Doc and Marty are out, it’s because they already had an episode “Doctor Who vs Doc Brown” where they were featured prominently. ERB never headlines the same characters, except for very rare instances. (Adolf vs Vader has 3 episodes due to popular demand in their early days, and they’ve officially ended it as a trilogy. Donald Trump became president AFTER they made Scrooge vs Trump, but they always do the presidential candidate battles.) I don’t think they’re OFFICIALLY out though. Never say “never” with ERB. They do have a lot of highly requested matchups though, and rather than recycling old characters they’re always looking at new creative options.

Alvin Franco

Oh yeah, and check out the ERB Discord if you can. There are various forums to make suggestions and discuss ideas. Lots of long-time Patreons there. They may have already talked about things like that, but will probably be happy to clue you on reasons that I never caught.
