Howdy patrons! Hope you all enjoyed the new battle "Wick vs Rambo vs McClane". It was an idea that actually arose from a round of #MakeThisBattle. So, this whole process is definitely working in terms of sifting through ideas and throwing match-up ideas at Peter and Lloyd to consider for the future.

We now have feedback for the latest round of MakeThisBattle. Let's see what EpicLLOYD thought of these seven ideas. [Remember! Do vote in the corresponding poll that's been posted  and you can now submit ideas for the new round of MTB - see below for details]

Ghostface vs Alexander Graham Bell [submitted by MC Fawful]

The only Ghostface making it on to my wish-list for ERB is Ghostface Killah UNLESS, we use Ghostface Killah to voice Ghostface which would sell me in a heartbeat. That would be so dope. But, Alexander Graham Bell is a great choice for ERB in general. I think the connection to a horror movie character who talks over the phone is very thin, so I don't think is the right match up. But, with the history of how telephone communications have played out, AGB is a must for sure.

Jack Sparrow vs Captain Picard [submitted by Neo]

This is kinda fun. I don't see this matchup going crazy viral or hitting it super hard with bars but it'd be a joyful romp and potentially one that could be for all ages, so that's nice. End of the day I'd say it's good on paper but might be more fitting for a Flash In the Pan.

Men In Black vs X-Files [submitted by ROCKYRALLYXD397]

Interesting. We've never really done the supernatural realm too much. Would we call it this title? Rather than Mulder & Scully vs Agent K & Agent J? I think the fact that there would be indecision on titling might be a red flag. I do think Men In Black appearing somewhere is pretty rad though. It's a film series that has still got relevance. Probably more so than X-Files. I would definitely love to see what Javi did with all the aliens and stuff.

Jerry Seinfeld vs Lucille Ball [submitted by Raymanisto & Boomer Spacely]

In a different world, this is a yes from me. Sadly, if we were gonna do these two it would have been in the comedian's battle. They were on the shortlist to make appearances in that battle for sure. I would really love to see Mamrie Hart as Lucille Ball. It's a crime we couldn't have had 50 people in that comedian's battle but you just gotta pick and make a good combo for the song you're trying to write. Maybe in time we can revisit more comedians.

Buzz Lightyear vs Ellen Ripley [submitted by Tanner C]

This is just out there enough to be possible. I think Pete might like this a lot. Personally, I'd go right to Ellen Ripley vs Sarah Connor cause it'd be badass and cold af. But swapping in Buzz might give the battle a nice levity and color. And we're already done the Terminator so it'd make a little more sense character selection wise. It's kind of a badass and hardcore battle as applied to a light-hearted vibe. Could be cool.

Barbie vs He-Man [submitted by Paddy]

Bwhahahahahaha. Fuck it, I love it. I'm a yes.

Louis Armstrong vs Notorious B.I.G. [submitted by Violet, FoxDoc & Paddy]

I like Louis Armstrong.  I'm a horn section fan and grew up playing jazz as a kid. We haven't covered the jazz age and it is a fascinating era. As far as Biggie goes, I just don't know how you pull off playing a rapper in a rap song. Maybe it is a personal block I have. Bach vs Tupac is catchy enough in the title to make it a discussion but, Biggie? I just can't see it being anything except an impossible task of trying to fill those shoes.

Our manager HeadMonk offers his thoughts on a few of the ideas...

Let's see... Jack Sparrow vs Captain Picard. I like it. Don't love it. I do think we should   consider tackling Star Trek again. That Christopher Columbus battle was so long ago and I think our phasers would be set to "stunning" if we revisited the series again. Picard or Spock are the obvious options. Jack Sparrow isn't an obvious opponent for Picard imo, but it's a character who people know with a larger than life personality. So, there is scope there.

I like MIB vs X-Files. It feels rather retro and I dunno if it sounds better on paper than it would if we knuckled down to write it. I've always liked the idea of Mystery Inc being brought into the equation just for the nostalgia overload. But that's just me. I think this match-up is one worthy of further consideration.

I think if we had had more time the Comedians battle in 2019 could have been much better than it was. We had so little time to do a very complicated battle. I'm certainly not against the idea of doing more comedians. I don't think it's ever too soon to do good characters. And Lucille Ball vs Jerry Seinfeld works for most people I've seen comment on it. I dig it.

Barbie vs He-Man is a winner in my mind. I think it's perfect ERB territory. I enjoy watching those 'The Toys That Made Us' documentaries. I think it'd be fun to explore this one.

So as always, it is time for a new round of MTB!!

The theme this time is... "The Future Is Now".

After a nostalgia dripping 80's/90's theme last month, let's refocus on the now and future! For this theme we are looking for match-ups that feature at least one character that is either a) a real life character who has come to fame in the last five years or b) a fictional character known for existing in the future or other universe.

You can of course always ignore the theme completely if you prefer. But, when selecting the match-ups for feedback we will select 2 or more suggestions that suit the theme.

Same rules apply. Seven match-ups in total will be selected. Three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the Discord server in the dedicated '#make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is... 5pm PT on Sunday 9th January.

======

Thanks to everyone who suggested match-ups. Remember to submit your ideas for the new round of MakeThisBattle before the deadline. Talk soon. :)
