Apologies for the delay in getting you this edition of the MakeThisBattle feedback, but better late than never! If you aren't aware already, we filmed a brand new rap battle last weekend! :) The shoot went super great!

We'll share a few photos with you in the next 24 hours.

But... for now it's MTB time!

As usual we picked out seven ideas and EpicLLOYD is back in the hot seat to offer his thoughts. {Please remember to vote for your fave in the poll]

The Phantom of the Opera vs The Mask [submitted by Lemon]

This is fun! I'd rather do this match-up than a whole slew of musical theater people for sure.  I think you could have the phantom do some classic Broadway singing type stuff and then the Mask would just come in and blow it all up with over-the-top comedy stuff. Fun contrast to the colors and energies here.

Frida Kahlo vs Coco Chanel [submitted by Maryam]

At first glance, this looks like a joke but I actually know a little bit about these characters and the match-up is very clever. Chanel was a massive powerhouse in business and not only that, the "self-care" business too. Kahlo was well known for painting "self-portraits" and using otherwise considered "ugly" traits to reveal the judgments of people. Smart pair up.

Spock vs Galileo [submitted by J-Star]

I like these characters on the level of about a B. I think each is known enough to be recognizable but after a few lines, you're kind of running dry. With Galileo I've got a Indigo Girls joke. I guess I need to read more about him. :) Spock is iconic for sure, but he's so woven into a bigger show and character (that we have already covered) it'd be necessary to really pair him up with someone perfect and exciting.

Charlemagne vs Oda Nobunaga [submitted by FoxDoc, Swan & Theformerprez]

I can't tell you anything about these two characters right off the bat. That's never a great start. Ok, just just read about them. I now get the connection but I am a bit BORED TO DEATH already!  Seems like this might be a better match-up for a history teacher to assign their students. I'm all about the real dusty deep stuff, but at the moment this one is a bit too bookish for ya boy.

The Flash vs Usain Bolt [submitted by abuck0310]

This one has been around for a while and I think it's really cool. A solid fiction vs non-fiction. As a superhero the Flash always made my head turn, especially cause Superman is equally as fast plus has like a dozen other kickass superpowers. Ha. That might make the match-up sing though. I'd love a little Jamaican flair to the beat and a  fast rapping section is probably required. A role for Watsky as the flash maybe!

Serena Williams vs Tiger Woods [submitted by Leo M.R.]

Something about this match-up makes me a little squirrely. It feels too much like it's about taking black athletes who have excelled in sports that have been historically exclusive of them and then pitting them against one another. Or am I thinking too deep on this. Either way, I am not sure what real beef there'd be between them.

Adam Smith vs Karl Marx [submitted by Clue]

My first reaction is "snore". Sorry. I do get it and you could cast the hell out of this and make the characters over the top and all that; but at the en.... zzzzzzzzzzz.. sorry at the end of the da...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Huh? Oh, right what I meant was that all the facts and math and economical jokes... zzzzz. wouldn't make up... zzzzz  for it being boring... ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Our manager HeadMonk offers some extra thoughts...

I actually see potential in most of these ideas. None of them are exactly home runs, but I can appreciate they are all decent ideas with solid connections.

Karl Marx is possibly number one on the list of characters who should have been in an ERB by now. We should rectify that. Clearly Adam Smith doesn't get Lloyd's juices flowing. But this match-up did receive 26% of the vote in a YouTube poll last week. I dunno if people were voting for Marx in particular. Is the ERB world crying out to see Adam Smith?

Tennis vs Golf. Serena vs Tiger. See this is the only one on the list that bores me. Maybe this is how some people feel about Maradona vs Brady (which is a match-up I love). I guess I just don't really have any affinity with Tennis or Golf, or the two characters. And more importantly I agree with Lloyd, that I don't see the beef potential.

Charlemagne vs Nobunaga is a strong idea. I think Oda is right up there for me in terms of lesser known (in the West anyway) characters we should strongly consider. Charlemagne probably not widely known either, which could be problematic combo. But it's a matchup to consider.. Will it poll well on this MTB? Probably not. Let's see though.

Galileo. I've got to buy Lloyd a book about him. Top tier historical character for me.. Spock as an opponent isn't a bad idea. But I still prefer Galileo vs Armstrong. I don't know why that's not widely viewed as a solid 1vs1. Maybe we do a royale with Galileo vs Armstrong with Spock, Rick Sanchez and I dunno... Buzz Lightyear popping up. Have them all go at it.

Time for a new round of MTB!! The theme this time is... "Hate, Not Love".

We'll be specifically looking for some match-ups where the potential beef between the two characters is unquestionable. So not Jim Henson vs Stan Lee. Or Taylor Swift vs Dolly Parton. We want to see some match-up ideas where the opponents would intrinsically despise one another if they met one another.

You can of course always ignore the theme completely if you prefer. But, when selecting the match-ups for feedback we will select 2 or more suggestions that suit the theme.

Same rules apply. Seven match-ups in total will be selected. Three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the Discord server in the dedicated '#make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is... 5pm PT on Sunday 17th October.
