On Sunday we held this months chat session over on the Discord server. Here is a quick overview about what was discussed.

We began with 'Happy Fathers Day" messages. Best wishes to all fathers out there and all the cool fathers who are no longer with us. And of course the "Allfather" Lloyd Lodbrok.

We then offered a HUGE thanks to all patrons who submitted lyric ideas for the Ragnar vs Richard battle. "We had so many great submissions and ideas from you. Your lyrics are peppered all over the battle. Nice work."

Patron "Samwise" asked what had motivated the change from Richard going second to Ragnar going second in the battle? Lloyd explained it was the development of the beat which led to that change. We had tried out 3 different beats for the battle and the one we settled on just seemed to work better with Richard verses starting the battle.

Patron "FoxDoc" asked what drove us to revisit the Lion King to incorporate the Richard didn’t screw his wife joke? Lloyd stated that at that stage of the lyric writing he just felt Ragnar wasn't reacting enough to what Richard had said. We had a line referencing Richard's relationship but it felt like it was in a vacuum. So we developed the "can't feel the love on any night" couplet and it worked because it was an insult but also a direct response.

We then moved on to discuss a short video message we had been sent by patron "Crabcakes125" which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/QtU7Rd7QFWk

It was a fun way to pose the question 'what are our current thoughts on "Red Baron vs White Death". Lloyd still isn't sure about the match-up. It feels very niche. It would probably need to scheduled around other uploads that feature bigger hitter type of characters.

As a segue from that idea Lloyd then said he just wanted to get some current thoughts from patrons on past match-ups which have had writing rooms / lyric submissions. Patrons listed some of their own personal favorites and it was clear there was a vast array of opinions. No clear cut winners as such although it seemed Indiana Jones vs Lara Croft was probably seen as the one match-up with the biggest widespread appeal.

HeadMonk wanted to get info on why a lot of people liked "H.P Lovecraft vs Rod Serling" as much as they do. Patron "Cheske" explained that it's two horror-adjacent icons. Literary history vs television history, two very opposing personalities who revolutionized their genres. The Twilight Zone kicked off a renaissance of the sci-fi genre. Lovecraftian horror emphasized fear of the unknown and a realization of one's insignificance. Both, used horror as metaphors for society in different ways. [Nice job Cheske]

Next Lloyd stated that we would be posting a poll on the YouTube community page on Monday (now yesterday!) featuring five characters from the Rise Of Kingdoms game. The poll is just for fun to gauge opinions on other potential historical rulers that haven't found their way into an ERB yet. Ramesses II and Hannibal Barca were two popular ones patrons liked and we decided those two would feature on the poll along with three others.

Peter asked whether we should open a new writing room and after a bit of discussion and ideas being lobbed at us, we decided to open a discord channel for 'Willy Wonka vs Jigsaw". It is a matchup that has polled well on both Patreon and YouTube and it is one we are interested in exploring. But, Lloyd has yet to watch any of the Saw films. He's in for a treat or a nasty surprise. :)

As always, just because a match-up gets a room for lyric submissions it does not mean that the battle will definitely happen any time soon. But, it does elevate it to join the other matchups which we have explored since we started the Patreon.

To close the session, Lloyd mentioned he had cameoed in a video for Ninja Sex Party. You can check out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIwI7Q1YDgs

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the chat live and for those that couldn't be there I hope this recap helps fill in a few gaps for you.

Don't forget there is a video live stream with Peter and Lloyd on Sunday 27th June at 2.30pm PT (Los Angeles).

Talk soon!
