Hello, it's Nice Peter here! Welcome to the first MakeThisBattle of the Holiday Season. I saw a Christmas tree today, so it’s official! :) So, let's get down to business...

Jerry Seinfeld vs Lucille Ball [submitted by swegmaster, Neo, Boomer Spacely]

I mean, obviously this is brilliant. This is perfect. What else can I possibly say? This is a wonderful matchup in every way. I would love to research it, I would love to write it, and I would love to watch it. Zach as Jerry? I’m already dead. Mamrie Hart as Lucille Ball? Stop kicking my corpse. They are titans of comedy and genuine contributors to television history. The characters have such unique personalities and rhythmic deliveries. Well done.

Adam Sandler vs Ben Stiller [submitted by Red Claw]

I feel almost the exact opposite. This sounds like the most unfun thing in the world. I don’t even know why, cos I actually like Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler. I think they are both funny and have made genuine funny contributions to society. I used to listen to the farting at the doctor sketch on that Adam Sandler album until I peed. But as a match-up this just doesn’t feel good, I don’t know, it feels like Vanilla Ice Cream vs Sprite. Both sweet enough and popular on their own, but no one wants to see them together.

Marie Curie vs Dr. Frankenstein [submitted by Smoshery]

Never heard of these two. Just joking, this seems to be a very popular idea in certain corners of the ERB Patreon world. I get it, I like it, both scientists killed by their own creations, right? But Curie didn’t create her discoveries, she discovered them. Archived them and studied them, and then died from them. I almost think Gepetto is a more appropriate foe for Dr Frankenstein, if you’re following that match-up logic.

Captain Picard vs Captain Jack Sparrow [submitted by J-Star]

This delights me more than I would have thought it would. Maybe I’ve just got a soft spot for Johnny Depp after all the weird news about him. Seems like an unhappy fella for such a fella, doesn’t he? Contrast that with Patrick Stewart, who seems like he’s constantly pleased. I think this is a great matchup, the characters are A+, the stories are right, the conflict is clear. I really love it. Can I play Sparrow instead of Alex Farnham? Please say yes.  I don’t think you’re saying yes.

Maximillien Robespierre vs Light Yagami [submitted by Red Is Sus, theformerprez]

I was beginning to think I’d never use Google again. Light …. Yaagaaaaaamiiii is that the guy from Smosh? Robespierre still bores me. Now Light Yagami comes along and makes it so boring I’m actually interested again. I know nothing of the Death Note anime, now I’m compelled to educate myself. If this Light Sashimi character is good enough for ERB Patreon favorite Monsieur Robespierre, I assume he’s badass.

The Three Stooges vs The Three Musketeers [submitted by Dragonsblood23, OmgWtfLolFtwBrb]

Haven’t we already said this one is great but will never get made? I know I say that about a lot of great ones, but this one really feels like it just doesn’t have the guts to get over the hump. Who would actually get excited about seeing this? They all seem so poofy to me, no grit, too much Bryan Adams and people named Shemp. It would have been great in Season 3, I just think we missed the window on this one. But the idea won't go away!

Vincent & Jules vs Agents J & K [submitted by Erik Bell]

This one keeps popping up too, but this matchup, I could actually fight for. I wouldn’t die for it, but I’d put up a good fight. Mostly because it creates a feeling of excitement in me to imagine it. Just turning on the creative circuits to imagine Vincent and Jules rapping, it’s electric. Bring in Will Smith rap song references? Get outta here... it’s a riot! Two of the suggestions in this edition of MakeThisBattle are flawless. Maybe three. And this is one of them. Well done everyone.

"Monk's Hot Takes" - our manager offers some thoughts!

I do love Star Trek. Not like a nerdy love. But I think it would be cool to do another Star Trek character one day. The key decision being Captain Picard or Spock. Both worthy. But after we did Blackbeard I am not sure we need another pirate type. That said, if we could pull off a superb characterization of Captain Sparrow like we did with Austin Powers (in terms of ultra realistic) I think it could work really well. It's worth considering. Marie Curie is someone who pops up fairly often but I have never been that convinced by the opponents people suggest. I think Dr Frankenstein is maybe the best one right now. I think V&J vs J&K might need to be titled as "Pulp Fiction vs Men In Black" in order for it work, and that kind of entity based match-up (bit like the East vs West Philosophy battle) might be worth us exploring more. The Three Stooges vs The Three Musketeers will not die! I've seen it so often in YouTube comments over the years. I dunno if it's because people are dying to see it, or it's just a simple concept that a lot of people end up thinking of. I still can't stop thinking Groucho Marx (or Marx Bros) should probably get a battle before the Stooges do.

As ever - a new round of MakeThisBattle now begins!

The theme this time is "Opposites Attract". We are looking for match-ups that feature characters with polar opposite lives or views or philosophy's, who disagree about mostly everything. It could be a criminal vs lawman, dictator vs spiritual leader or they could just come from opposite sides of the planet. Or anything that fits the general remit. :)

You can ignore the theme completely if you prefer. But, when selecting the match-ups for feedback we will select 2 or more suggestions that match the theme.

Same rules apply. Seven match-ups in total will be selected. Three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the Discord server in the dedicated '#make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is... 5pm PT on Wednesday 9th December
