First off... we are very busy at work on the next ERB video. But we wanted to give you a little update. The target date we have in mind for upload is Wednesday 23rd October. This is just the target. It may be out a day sooner. It may be out a few days later. But - all be being well - we are aiming for Wednesday! Just don't hold us to it ok. :) We just like to put them out when they're ready - not before. And like Wolverine we all need to sleep sometimes.

Secondly - thank you for all the submissions in the latest round of #makethisbattle. There was a very heavy dose of FITP style match-ups submitted (I guess that was the theme after all - Ed) so we have chosen to concentrate on that theme for this whole batch of feedback.

Lloyd has jumped into the hot-seat once more to offer his views, so let's have a look at what he thought shall we...

I love giving feedback on these FITP battles, that said, please understand I’m somewhat of a hard ass on these type of creative decisions. As described by Pete, “Lloyd is the prickly part of the Velcro.”  So if ever it’s a hard line, know that that’s been my role and while it’s an important one, is typically balanced out by the more fuzzy side of said Velcro - eL

Al Gore vs Captain Planet [submitted by mblpns]

I love Al Gore and get the idea behind the match up with regard to it being based on the environment. But, Captain Planet is a pretty old and obscure cartoon character - from way back in the early 90's. So not really sure that would work well with a modern internet audience. No doubt a whole load of people will still remember the show. And climate change is very much a hot topic right now. But, Captain Planet just feels a little in the shadow of Al Gore to me; whereas Al has been in the public eye a lot in recent years.

Big Foot vs Waldo [submitted by teddyfail]

This is great. An obvious connection. Plenty of potential humor with these characters. I’d actually love to see these two brought to life with full on voices and costumes. Although Big Foot would be a tricky one for Morgan. But, it's a good idea for an FITP. Both characters offer strong name recognition. It's just whether there's enough material once you dig down into them. Its one for the shortlist though.

Odysseus vs Alice [submitted by fishbulb]

I really don’t get this one. On face value for this match up we’d need to do a lot of teaching in the lyrics, which is tougher to make funny. That said, Alice in Wonderland is one book a lot of people will have read at some point or seen in movies. But, is the hero from Homer's poem someone people really want to see rap? I'm not sure. Googling things, it does seem there is some form of parallel in their two stories. So that might make it worthy. Would need to read up more on this one.

Ben Shapiro vs Mr Spock [submitted by BTTF & Dragonsblood23]

These two characters are both really interesting and also they do look a like too. I’m just not sure Shapiro merits the nod for a rap battle just yet. That said it would really be fun to write as Shapiro, cause he’s such a sharp debater and has such clear points of view. Then you have Mr Spock who is very well known and also deals in logic - so there is a lot of potential there for crafting some killer lines. Do we need more Star Trek - I guess if we did another character, Spock would be pretty much top of the list.

Peter Pan vs Pol Pot [submitted by Death2Snails]

Has good curb appeal. The double P’s are fun. Pol Pot has been on the list for a while and Peter Pan is a classic for sure. These two characters actually have potential to be in an ERB never mind FITP. It would be fun to find the cast. Pete as Peter Pan might write itself though - can definitely see that. I would be excited to learn more about Pot myself. Not sure the match-up is perfect, but I dig both characters individually.

MacGyver vs Macbeth [submitted by Tzyt]

This might be a good example of when the title is stronger than the ability for the battle to be intriguing. The match-up does definitely have a ring to it. But I dunno. Macbeth doesn’t really excite me too much. Not sure why. Maybe cos we did Shakespeare and Romeo & Juliet. How much is too much? Maybe Hamlet might be a better option if we are looking at more Shakespeare characters. MacGyver however is a really funny idea to use, and we could definitely do some fun gags with him.

Barney vs Godzilla [submitted by UncleSyrus]

This would be really, really fun and actually a good candidate for an animated battle. Strong colors, good contrasting personalities and lots of movement. Fun all round. Could work as an FITP for sure. But do we all need Godzilla and Barney? Does the world want to see them rap? Probably! Shortlist bound.

Thank you.. eL

We have posted up a poll so you can vote on which of these match-ups you like best. We are actively looking for a new FITP match-up for you all to help write in the Discord server.

Maybe it will be one of these ideas above. Maybe it will be something else completely. We will be scouring around the Discord server this weekend for some special ideas - so keep the ideas floating around.

------

We are now accepting new submissions for the next round of #makethisbattle. We will move away from FITP and return to concentrating on ERB type match-ups.

The theme for the next round is... 'Intercontinental'. So we are looking at match-ups that feature two characters from completely different continents. Just make them special! Think outside the box. We will select at least 2 match-ups that fit that theme in the next batch of feedback.

Same rules apply as normal. Three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the Discord server in the dedicated 'make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is 9am PT on Sunday October 27th.
