Firstly, we just want to thank each and everyone of you for your continued support, and also your patience at the weekend when the new ERB got delayed. Technical gremlins caused havoc. Hope you're all satisfied with the battle though. :)

Secondly, Peter has offered up feedback on the last round of match-up submissions - in our ongoing #makethisbattle process. There will be a corresponding poll posted up imminently! So get voting.

But - lets cut to the chase and see what Peter has to say...

The Dude vs Yoda (submitted by UncleSyrus)

Lol. No. But awesome. I’m not sure why I just reflexively say no, it just feels a little silly. But that’s not a reason enough not to do something. Maybe it’s also because bringing Yoda to life seems especially difficult, borderline impossible. Maybe this one is best left as a Flash in the Pan possibility, there are so many good jokes to be made. 10 bonus points for creativity.

Andrew Jackson vs Hernan Cortes (submitted by Neo! & SwanSchlong)

Oh, this is just great. Really solid. I don't know the depth of the exact connection in mind here, but it already feels good. Both characters have a lot to take jabs at. This has potential. We had thought seriously about putting Jackson against a Native American leader, but I almost like this better. With both characters as "heels" there's lots of fun that can be had, without getting too preachy about it.

Evel Knievel vs Buster Keaton (submitted by Taurus121)

Cool. But... I don't think it's the right match-up for either. Both are great characters, and I see there's kind of a daredevil-for-entertainment thing here, but I don't know... it just feels a little sideways to me.  What do you all think?

Richard III Vs Richard Nixon (submitted by Josef)

Very fun, we keep looking for opportunities to bring Richard Nixon in. This is a good one. Admittedly, I don't know too much about Richard III without googling him. (searches) Okay, cool, lots to learn, lots to reference. I am not sure the link between them would be obvious to people, but there is the name link, which is fine enough. So many delicious War of the Roses puns to be made, and so many sweet Nixon jokes. This is a cool match-up, not obvious, but sometimes those end up being the best ones.

The Joker vs Pennywise (submitted by Alanomaly & Seraphimon44)

Lol. No. I see this one so much, but I don't want to do it. I've never wanted to do it. That's not to say it'll never get done, as it is a very popular suggestion. I'll speak to Lloyd. I originally always stayed away from it because Joker was just completely owned by Heath Ledger’s interpretation. Now that new movie is coming out, it may have more wiggle room. It still isn’t my favorite, but as I always say, neither was Bill Gates vs Steve Jobs, until it was!

King Henry VIII vs Lex Luthor (submitted by JMThomas)

This is pretty cool. I like the idea of resurrecting Henry VIII for something. Lex Luthor... I don't know.... he's not quite the right fit for Henry VIII though. I saw a suggestion of Lex Luthor vs Jeff Bezos that made me feel pretty giggly inside. All that said, keep the Henry VIII suggestions coming.

Jekyll & Hyde vs Watson & Crick (submitted by Dragonsblood23 & Foxdoc)

Who is Crick? Oh, right. Got it. Thanks Google. My ignorant ass thought it was some kind of sub-plot to Sherlock Holmes. How embarrassing. I just don't think Watson and Crick have the star power to pull off an ERB. Their work is significantly more famous than they are.

We are now accepting your match-up ideas again for a new round of #makethisbattle. You can post them in the comments below, post them in the #make-this-battle discord channel or email them to: erbpatreon@gmail.com

The theme for the next round is 'Award Winners' - they may have won an Oscar, a Nobel Prize, A War Medal etc etc. But, it needs to be something significant. At least two of the selections chosen in the next round will feature this theme.

Rules as ever remain the same. Maximum three selections per patron.

Deadline for submissions is: 9am PT on Friday August 30th.

I know I'm late and this probably won't be seen, but how about John Williams (Academy and Grammy Award winning composer) vs Alan Menkin (Academy and Tony Award winning composer). Lots of ammunition on both sides. John Williams (Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Hook, E.T., Jaws, etc.) and Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Tangled, Enchanted, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Sausage Party, etc. wait what?!)

Shigeru Miyamoto vs Hayao Miyazaki is still my most wanted rap battle. Some other ideas I like are Van Helsing vs Blade (or Geralt of Rivia), Ash Williams vs Jill Valentine (or Buffy), H.P. Lovecraft vs Rod Sterling and King Arthur vs Link
