Hinata hyperventilating made me instantly think of Chaewon at Iz*One's last concert. It brought me right back to that. I still cannot believe how composed Airi was after being cut. No way would I have been able to be that thoughtful right after being cut. I wonder what everyone else thinks but after watching this episode now a third time, I think I finally figured out the real reason they moved Airi out (I don't really buy the better as a soloist line). Cocona and Jurin hint at it right away. Cocona had a safety blanked in Airi . She was a big sister. She had someone to look up to and support her. Similarly Jurin never had to lead because everyone just listened to Airi . In some ways Airi was too much of a presence, not her fault, that other members were too comfortable and stopped growing because she was there to pick up the pieces. In a way, Simon removed the safety net when he cut her. Maybe I'm looking at it incorrectly but I think he worried that she was too "domineering" which again is 100% not her fault. In fact, if she was less talented and less of a leader she'd have been less of the force she was. I think we all know groups in Kpop that suffer because one member is just a tier above the other members. XG without Airi doesn't really have that because all 7 had to fill that void one way or another.

From what I have heard/read, Xgalaxy actually did intend to debut Airi as a solo artist. The problem was, XG was going to be the focus, which meant Airi would be on the 'back burner' for a long time (maybe even a few more years), till XG was up and going solidly. That 'timeline' was, am guessing, to long for Airi, and she wanted to perform while still in her 'prime'. She went out on her own, and is doing songs under her name, KAMYIA.

I agree with you. I believe it was that the group relied on her too much. Simon hinted at it saying that the 7 was destined to be a group....and that would demonstrate each of their individual abilities that creates the group itself. I think they did rely on Airi to always be there and be the leader and the XG safety net to take care of things if they didn't go this way or that. I think maybe in future XG groups if they do debut, it wouldn't be as much as a problem but the first group...the first to debut had to be perfect.

If you want to learn about Airi's solo stuff and thoughts about everything related to XG, there's a great interview (with english subs), that was made after this episode by one Japanese youtuber, that you could watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUNeVRNmYGA. No need to react to it.
