Hwiseo being ping-ponged between the teams brought me great joy. She's a valuable player in this game and they all know it

*More thoughts on the performances below*

Enjoy!

- Kaia

Performance ranking/further thoughts:

Okay so having now re-watched the performances and watched the full cam versions, my ranking has changed slightly from what I said in episode (I knew it would but y'know). Here's my personal ranking now incl. my mvp for each stage:

*remember this is just based off my personal preference*

1st (tied) Fighting

  • I honestly thought this would be very hard to beat after watching the previous episode and I was correct. I'm a sucker for theater kid vibes in kpop and this was that all over. The energy, the vibes and the sheer will power of the members was everything. The section from Yuki & Jiwoo's rap break onwards got me so aggressively hyped
  • MVP: Juri - not only for her infectious energy and amazing vocals in the performance, but also for her ability to pull the team together when she needed to

1st (tied) Shut Down

  • OKAY SO FIRST OF ALL forget what I said about this being on the cusp between feeling like a cover & feeling like their own song. They made this their own song and I will not be forgiving the audience for that abysmal vote.
  • Anyway, if you haven't already, go and watch the full cam of this performance. Imo the in-episode camera work did NOT do this performance justice. It was a good time watching it during the episode for sure but watching the full cam actually gave me a much better idea of the sheer *power* these girls were giving. Vocals, rap, choreo & presence all ate down and they truly deserved better
  • MVP: Hwiseo - listen, I know I'm biased but seriously watch that full cam. She gives 130% at all times and I'm lov her

3rd Only One

  • I was *thiiiiiis* close to just making it a three way tie for 1st tbh. The only reason I didn't was bc I thought it'd be silly lmao
  • In all seriousness tho Kei's vocal tone makes me want to sob. She has that ability to make you feel every emotion under the sun with just a few words sung and I'll never get enough. Pair that with Soeun's clear beautiful tone AND powerful dancing and it's a match made in heaven. This was the hardest one to choose an MVP for as they both were so perfect but...
  • MVP: Kei - it's the vocal tone for me. Soeun's dancing nearly snagged it for her cause god damn but if I'm honest, this performance was made as emotive as it was for me in large part because of Kei's vocals so..

4th Nxde

  • Not much to say here tbh. It's a fire performance. They ate it up and I'm not surprised by their win at all. The only thing I'll say is it doesn't have quite the same level of impact on me personally as the top 3. I also think they had one of the weaker vocal performances in terms of stability but that doesn't really mean much bc they still destroyed
  • MVP: Jihan - she's dominating this competition and I'm absolutely here for it. Our little chameleon I stg

5th Don't Call Me

  • It feels wrong to say this is 5th because like that shit was dope??? But the other performances were just stronger for me in terms of use of the stage and set pieces etc. I'd also say the song was one of the most similar to the original out of the bunch as well. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily but it does increase that feeling of it being a cover stage versus making it their own y'know? Yeoreum, Zoa & Wooyeon ate DOWN tho
  • MVP: Yeoreum - once again biased yes, but I'm not wrong lmao. Imo she proved in this performance that she's the strongest dance performer in this competition. Like did you see her move? Unreal

6th Dance The Night Away

  • Must preface this by saying that I still enjoyed this performance and I think the girls did great! However...
  • Out of all the performances I stand by what I said where this feels the most like a cover stage rather than a ~remix~. It was very fun and bubbly and bright but that's exactly what I'd expect from this song so part of me kinda wishes they'd switched it up a little bit more. I'm not saying dark version or anything but just idk given it something a bit more unexpected. I also think having the same person lead the dance break AND do the big belt was a bit of an L on the line distributer's part. That should have been split between Yeonhee & Bora
  • Regardless, it was still a lot of fun and the girls all did great in their respective roles. It just didn't have the same impact or lasting impression for me as the others
  • MVP: Seoyeon - idk what it is man, I know she's the "least skilled" member on the team but that rough-around-the-edges charm makes me like her even more, especially when it's paired with those expressions and that goofy, bright energy. She brought this performance to life for me

I could be completley off the mark here but i feel like puzzling gives major Fromis B Side vibes

As far as the two categories for the stages, I definitely see it. I think Nxde did the best at making it their own. I do agree that their vocals were some of the least stable, but thematically I really love what they did with it to the point that I can overlook some of the vocals. Fighting was my favorite performance though. It was just the best. Shut Down deserved better. DNTA feeling like a cover stage I also can agree with, and who ever distributed the parts for that stage should be fired. I really loved Don't Call Me. Every member got a moment to really shine. That's the performance where I'm the least familiar with the original song so that could be working in their favor for me. Only One had some of my very favorite specific moments from any performance, but I was a bit disappointed that it didn't get me anywhere near to crying. I think that my expectations were too high. I was kinda expecting it to be on par with Minyoung and Hyolyn's To My Youth from Queendom 2 and it's definitely extremely unfair to have my expectations that high. All the shenanigans with changing around the Queendom and Puzzle teams was a lot of fun, but I do feel so bad for Soojin. I hope she really gets to have her moment in this next round. The battle for Hwiseo was of course great. I would be really interested to see who the top 5 of their member rankings were just to see how valued some of the members are. There was no way Yuki was going to go right back with Jiwoo, but it is so sad that Nana picked Jiwoo specifically and she immediately got sent back.

I am stupidly excited for the next round and especially the Rush Hour stage. It has 4 of my top 7 in the Y-Line and Nana. And Zoa and Suyun are in my top 10 so it is gonna be great. I do think the Round 3 battle is gonna be the most interesting in terms of voting. Wannabe has Jihan which we know is insanely popular. But the other team has arguably the best song out of all of the rounds but less popular members. So I am wondering what will happen over there. Also really looking forward to the 3 semi final songs but with them only having 7 members each I am scared to think what is gonna happen to the 5 that are left out so to say. I really hope they don't get eliminated. This show doesn't need eliminations. Also wondering if Chaeyeon and Haein never left would we have gotten 4 semi final songs? Probably.

Haven't watched through the whole video yet, bur for these performances, I think the votes being solely by the live studio audience 'caused some of the ~shocking~ scores. Feel like Nxde being relatively leveled and one-dimensional in terms of stage height probably gave the best view and experience for the live audience, adding to the heavy impressions left by the rope choreo. I think for us watching online through a camera, the levels was mostly not a factor, and might even be an advantage. Like I absolutely loved the Only One perf but the choreo/staging probably doesn't translate as well for the live audience as it does for someone like me watching it solely through the camerawork. Loved the Hwiseo demand, but I thought the member voting thingy was cruel. I just hope it doesn't affect Soojin's self-esteem much. :( Kinda find myself rooting for Yeonhee's team now for the all rounder rounds.

So a few thoughts on the cover performances. 1) one of my pre show favorites/hopefuls was Wooyeon & I feel like she redeemed herself very well! It wasn’t quite on par with Gyuri’s PD48 redemption but really good nonetheless! She seemed pleased and that’s a good thing! 2) Zoa…just wow! That’s it, that’s the comment! 3) I legit forgot just how stunning Miru is! And speaking of Miru (kind of), I didn’t think I could love Yeeun even more than I do (an ult bias) but her working with Miru got me! 4) I’ll preface this by saying that after seeing how many votes Nude got I assumed there were roughly 300 voters (no actual idea, just my best guess). Having said that I think every performance deserved at least 220 votes after watching them. I’m not exactly sure what the audience was watching but it wasn’t the same thing I was. Perhaps because they were there they maybe saw/heard some glaring mistakes that weren’t shown on the broadcast but honestly that would be so off brand for Mnet. Anyway, in talking to other people who watched there seems to be a major disconnect between those who were there & everyone else. My ranking, based on how much I enjoyed them… 1. Don’t Call Me! Top notch performance of a great song! MVP…Zoa! Could have gone to a few others. 2. Only One. See #1’s explanation. MVP…Kei but both were excellent! 3. Fighting. Just great fun & they really pulled off something amazing considering where the group started! MVP…Juri if for no other reason than rallying the troops! Although Soojin almost snagged it for low key calling out IST on a national broadcast! 4. Nude. Very good but I felt it could have been more impactful. Perhaps I expected more? MVP…Jihan 5. Shut Down. Hwiseo’s a star & H1-key deserves more attention! MVP…Hwiseo 6. DTNA. Was good but not as impactful as the others. MVP…Seoyeon.

So when I watch this and do not have the benefit of rewatching and having to do a live vote after just one watch, I agree with the ranking for the most part. With shutdown. For me, it comes down to the remix. It wasn't good. I did not enjoy it and found it almost distracting. Everyone was hitting and popping and shut down. Wasn't. I would've liked it if they would've gone for more of a rock element to it. But that's me. Now after re-watching, my ranking is Fighting- I love the theater style and energy. They captured what Juri wanted, lol. Nude- the uneasy feeling really grabbed me and pulled me in. It doesn't help that Both of my biases, being Nana and Jihan, was performing together. I'm biased and don't care. Only One- beautiful and executed incredibly, and again, like the first two, I enjoyed the story they were sharing. Don't call me- sorry Zoa😵‍💫, Yeeun 🦶 on me, Yeoreum dance break LFG. DTNA- sorry for being biased with my TripleS bias Seoyeon who captured the cute energy. Shut Down- again, it's the remix. I'm not too fond of it. With all the other songs, I can see myself listing to it. Not Shut Down, my ears don't like. Now if I was going off of performance top 3, it's just the remix. I knew this would be a problem cause of all the BP songs to do. You pick the one that's hard to remix 🤷🏻. In the end, I still had a great time watching everything unfold.

Those two girls in the audience were TripleS members Chaeyeon and Soomin

Curious who's gonna do the rapping for Team (Puzzle? Yeonhee's team, I lose track so easily), though I don't even recall the songs they're doing at this point nor necessarily know them well enough to know the raps anyway. I assume JooE and Jiwoo probably, and I hope one of the most overlooked people on this show (and in her own group honestly) Chaerin gets a chance to shine, cause she is a rapper (and a great dancer as well, but Cherry Bullet has underwhelming choreography in general, though I still love them unreasonably). Do Hwa did rap some with AOA, but Jimin was obviously "the rapper" in that group. Why does MNet always have to do something that doesn't just make someone(s) feel bad for placing low, but even add in stuff that is flat out unnecessarily hurtful? Voting out members of the team? Whoever came up with that deserves to be voted out of his/her job. That isn't dramatic, it's just petty and spiteful. Soured what had been a mostly fun episode. Stupid scoring/ranking/voting systems are bad enough, that was awful. It was interesting, there were a few times (Kei, Miru, Juri and Nana last week) I specifically noticed where the backing track came through instead of the live vocals, and every time it was someone wearing one of the mics with the arm that holds it out in front, not the ones taped to the corner of the mouth. Not particularly relevant, just caught my attention, I could have easily missed some, though. I've given up on the actual rankings on MNet shows. It rarely feels even close to how I see it. My rankings for this round, though: 1. Shut Down - MVP tossup cause they all killed it, none stood out cause they all did. 2. Don't Call Me - MVP Wooyeon, that performance fails if she didn't kill her part 3. Fighting - MVP Juri 4. Only One - MVP Kei 5. Nxde - MVP Jihan 6. DTNA - MVP, eh, I guess I'll buy the Seoyon for the youthful energy. I feel like at this point covering "bright" Twice songs from their earlier days is just becoming stale. Let's try Feel Special or I Can't Stop Me or something.

My personal rankings: 1. Shut Down - My only qualm with it is that I don't think they did enough with the arrangement of the song. It still echoed the BP version too much for me. But the choreo and everything else was fantastic. Sangah jumping backwards and landing on that pole without looking still gets me every time I've seen it. 2. Fighting - I just loved the stage and the energy. It's not my favorite song of the bunch, but I enjoyed the concept a bunch and I thought it was the most fun. 3. Nxde - I actually really dislike the arrangement. I thought the concept and choreo was really good, but I really wasn't a big fan of how it was remixed. That said, of all these songs, Nxde is probably my favorite original, so I'm sure there's some bias there. 4. Only One - I think there was some awkwardness still and, just like the soloists in the previous Queendoms, there were no favors by having the two of them in the spotlight the whole time while everyone else had whole groups that could mix things up. That said, it's a lovely song and they did a good job with it. 5. Don't Call Me - I'm not super familiar with the original, but I thought they did ok. Wooyeon and Yeoreum stood out, but I didn't find the performance itself particularly memorable. I think they did a good job, but the others above were just...better. 6. Dance the Night Away - Other than the opening with the bubble, it just wasn't my thing. It was fine, but similar to the Don't Call Me Stage, I can't pick out any moment other than the bubble, where I really went "Wow" like I did for Shut Down, Fighting or Nxde.

Anything w public voting..be it live audience...or online will always be nonsense...peeps nowadays have no concept of actually voting for a best performance..they are just gonna vote their favs no matter what...so the makeup of the live audience was always going to determine the winner..not the actual performances...which is one reasons these types of shows are always nonsense...

KL

My favourite performance is Only One, but I think the Nxde team was honestly the best at making the song their own, so great job to them considering the task was to remix the song. And yeah I don't think Shut Down should be that low, they owned that stage.

ReynaYeriswife

I know this is a bit unrelated, but I hope that you get to do a deep dive into TripleS soon! I love the group and all the members, including Seoyeon and especially Jiwoo lol. My favourite performance out of all of them was probably Fighting as well.
