I ABSOLUTELY agree that the pacing in this show was beyond masterful. There was never a moment when I thought "how are they going to wrap this all up in the time remaining?", there were so many moments throughout the series where the characters are given time to think and breathe without the direction rushing forward to the next cut, the next scene, and the fact that the last game took place in the first third of the final episode, leaving plenty of time for results and ramifications, cemented its masterpiece standing. I can quibble about certain things (the writing of the VIPs most importantly), but this show is an absolute master class in how to set up interesting characters, make the audience care about them, draw the audience in to the setting and story, and then resolve it in a satisfying way. I REALLY want to say "Thank You" to Hwang Dong-hyuk someday…

Have to say that it was very nice to rewatch this show with you. I caught a lot I didn't the first time watching it, so thank you for doing this. One thing I have learned from the endless amount of movies and shows I watch is that if you don't see them die, they ain't dead, so I do think the detective man survived. Also the fact that this show wasn't meant to have a season two and that the writer was sorta forced into it is a little disappointing. Why can't they just leave well enough alone? I know it made a lot of money, but some stories just doesn't need any more explanation.

While I agree with you that I would be perfectly happy if Squid Game ended here and there was no S2, I don't think Hwang Dong-hyuk is being "forced" into making a second season. He just had no expectations of any extension to the story since the vast majority of Netflix dramas are "one-and-done" and he had no reason to believe Squid Game would be any different. Plus, Mr. Hwang didn't get rich off of Squid Game - these contracts don't really really scale if a show like Squid Game blows up - there's no box office to get revenue from. He got financing, freedom and paid for making a show he'd been trying to make for a decade, which is great, but his only real opportunity to share in the show's success is to make another series. So Mr. Hwang is being smart in his negotiations with Netflix - getting much more money for a second Squid Game season to make up for the fact that he didn't get rich off of S1, and commitment to one or more of his other projects in addition to Squid Game S2.

My only issue with this show was how gihun was so good to everyone in this show but his own family. I was so heated when he didn’t go see his daughter at the end. I was just like dude come one. EVERYTHING else about this show was amazing dude. It was fun watching it again with you.

I don't disagree with you about going to see Ga-yeong, and I think that had he not gotten terribly unlucky and seen the recruiter at the airport, Gi-hun WOULD have gotten on the plane and probably have lived a reasonably happy life going forward. But realizing that the games didn't end with Il-nam's death, that they were about to start again, and that hundreds more people were about to die...was EXTREMELY triggering. The games were THE defining moment of Gi-hun's life, and he simply could not wait a few weeks, do nothing, allow all those desperate people to go through what he did. Yes, it is terrible that he won't see his daughter for some time, if ever (depending upon the events of S2), but I totally understand why the trauma of what he went through made it unavoidable that he would turn back up the boarding ramp… Gi-hun is a man on a mission now, and I think part of what happens in S2 will be seeing that even a mission for good can have bad consequences…

I’m too much of a family comes first person. Don’t get me wrong I get why they made him do it for the storyline and all I just didn’t like it. I mean if this was any other show this would be his daughters villain story.
