REACTION to GIRLS PLANET 999 EP.04 (Patreon)

I figured what word I was looking for when I was talking about what it would have felt like if The Eve had won: disingenuous! Simply because of the feedback they'd gotten. Even though the masters admitted they performed the best, if they'd given them the win after the... less than warm response they gave the performance, it just would have felt weird. Anyway, I hope that makes sense! At the end of the day, I think all the teams did an incredible job and it was only really a matter of small mistakes and personal preference that can split them.

I haven't rewatched the performances yet but for right now, based on how well I think they did & how much I enjoyed them, I'd say my personal ranking of these performances (+ the 3 people who stood out to me most in them/through fancams) would be:

  • Pretty U (Myah, Kotone & Yi Zhou)
  • Fiesta Team 1 (Hsin Wei (obvs), Mashiro, Yeseo)
  • The Eve (Jiyoon, Shana, Yaning)
  • Yes Or Yes Team 1 (Hyerim, Moana, Chaehyun)
  • How You Like That Team 2 (Jia, Rinka, Moka)
  • The Fifth Season Team 1 (Bora, Luo Fei, Jiao)
  • Yes Or Yes Team 2 (Ziyin, Ririka, Wen Zhe)
  • How You Like That Team 1 (Youngeun, Xia Yan, XiaoTing)
  • Mic Drop (Chen Han, Jeongmin, Yuna)
  • The Fifth Season Team 2 (Qiao, Rayeon, Joungmin)
  • Fiesta Team 2 (Yubin, Bahiyyih, Jimin)

Again, I think they all did brilliantly all things considered and I had a great time watching them all (and also already can't wait for more). I'll also just say that currently my top 9 is looking like: Hsin Wei, Jiyoon, Jia, Ruiqi, Hikaru, Reina, Yeseo, Yaning & Mashiro. But like I was saying towards the end, I have my couple of firm absolute favorites and then like a top 25 people who could fill out the rest of the top 9 depending on the day.

I had lots to say today apparently but let me know your own thoughts below and I'll see you next week for the next episode :)

i don't get why bahi, jimin, or else on the fiesta team didn't try to be the main vocal. Miyu isn't their strongest vocalist to begin with, yet nobody questions her doing it. Also i think the judges were totally wrong about The Eve. I am upset about them losing, but mainly i'm upset about them saying that Ruiqi, Dayeon, and Yaning shouldn't make facial expressions. That was just totally stupid, they looked great. Plus Jiyoon is amazing, her tone and voice is incredible. She did train at one point with some company, but it looks like she has been independent for 3 years. I think there is no way she doesn't end up in some group even if it isn't in the final top 9. She is going to have companies calling her up.

It's not just me who has the part 1 ending in a different place than part 2 stops, right? I'm a bit disappointed because I think the end of Bora's 5th Season performance is so good, but I'm sure a ton was going on w/the boiler repairperson

A little spoiler, Wen Zhe (Shirley in YWY) was in the chinese version of Exo's "The Eve" ^^

With all the hate Yaning was getting prior to and at the start of the show, I think I was almost more interested to see her and what she was capable of. I've been really impressed with her abilities so far, both dance and vocal and I've started to really like her based purely from what I have seen on this show with no knowledge of anything that has happened before. Now I know kind of what people are upset at her over, in addition to the Yujin thing, but I also know how unreasonably upset netizens get at the smallest thing and taking it way out of context to try and ruin the reputation of someone or in order to defend their particular favourites, so I'm kinda taking it with a pinch of salt? But yeah, she's for sure in my Top 9 so far, along with Yeseo and Rui Qi, the rest could very much still be up for grabs, but I'm keeping my eyes on Mashiro and Hyewon, and after this episode Myah has grown on me a lot too. The kinda awkward thing is I'm not sure how such different personalities like that would mesh together in a single group. I have no doubt Yeseo is one of the best dancers in the competition and could pull off just about anything, but she's only just turned 16 a few days ago and Yaning/Rui Qi are probably looking more towards wanting to do concepts like The Eve or something girl crush and I'd need to see more from her if she could fit that kind of concept, but also I'm not sure if she's too young to be doing something like that. Where as if the group is going to be putting out music more similar to Iz*one, I'd need more convincing that they are the ones that are capable and wanting to pull it off. Maybe I'm thinking way too deep on this. I love girls.

i just looked at the vote totals and rankings from last week, and i'm not even sure that the 3x benefit will save most of the girls in Pretty U. Myah's cell is the only one in the safe zone, the rest are around 28th. That would be crazy if 2/3 cells of that team get eliminated after having won. obviously the 3x isn't nothing, but the vote gap between 25-33 and 17 is huge. Plus you got to consider not everyone watched the fancams and changed their voting patterns, so that gap could still be the same. And they only have the 24 hours to make it up. on the flip side, every cell in the Eve team is basically safe regardless. the only one of slight concern is You Dayeon's cell.

yes or yes team 1 and fiesta team 1 are the best ones for me, teamwork & stability on point. It makes me mad of the evil editing for you dayeon, she deserves better. Dayeon did try to speak up during the team meeting (picking parts) in previous episode but unfortunately got shut down with a straight no cause each one of them only got one chance to try 🥺 she doesn't want to be disrespectful and no one was siding with her so she decided to voice out her concern to the masters instead, then suddenly the others said she shouldn't have done that but when the masters told them to talk it out, suddenly almost all of them agreed that they want to change the parts that they want to sing too ?? make it makes sense 😭 the lack of teamwork is devastating https://twitter.com/999erz/status/1431237360579072006?s=21 protection squad for you dayeon assemble ✊

I've already said a lot of the discord but as always I loved watching your reactions to all the stages! I definitely understand your frustration on how the Masters reacted to The Eve stage. I also didnt agree with Sunmi criticizing some of the facial expressions, I get what she means, but also didnt think any of those expressions were too much. Still, I ended up agreeing with all the winners that the Masters picked, so I was happy to see that. I personally would have sent the Fiesta Red team or Pretty U to MCountdown but have no issues with Yes or Yes Team 1 going. As someone that watched all the fancams, I agree this episode didnt really change any of my rankings anymore than the fancams already did, but I think a lot of that was because of how much they focused on all the performances this episode and had less of the practice time interactions between the girls as Episode 3 did. I've posted my top 9 in the discord chat and feel pretty good about it, although I have so many girls that I love that it's real difficult to make a top 9. I'm both looking forward to and dreading next week. I'm not ready to say goodbye to so many of the girls. It will be nice to be able to focus on a smaller amount of contestants though, watching though all 99 fancams was a lot! lol.

I will say as a differing opinion, I actually agreed with Sunmi's opinion on the whole facial expressions. To me it looked like they were trying to emote for a different song, I kept thinking "ladies this isnt Tiger Inside or Mic Drop, you're doing too much". The Eve is an intense song but its not aggressive or angry, they kept looking like they wanted to growl. Oddly enough despite her being public enemy #1 I thought fu yaning didnt deserve to be in that comment, but I did have that thought about Dayeon and Ruiqi (I also thought that about Jiyoon too). Big shocker, but I think Hikaru did it perfectly, as well as Shana despite them having little baby faces. I would also agree with your EBS rankings and the masters, Pretty U was just executed flawlessly. They portrayed the happiness and energy of that song so well, and I think they performed it just as well as the eve team, despite not having as big of personalities as them. I also was a wash on the Dayeon thing. I agree about speaking up to the team first, but I understand her frustration and how intimidating some of the girls in her group can be (despite them all ostensibly being equals). Ultimately I was just going "i mean you spoke up so you better kill this part" and she did, so no harm no foul.

the score gap between team pretty u and the eve was 9 (only 1 digit) wich is it's about whose team did steal the masters' attention the most. So the scores were more subjective rather than objective.
