At the album listening live show, IU said that she tried to use various tone and vocalization for this album (ex: for LILAC, she used more lighter voice that she often used at her early songs) She also adjusted the tracklist so that audiences would sense those tone difference more easily

also song description for 'Epilogue' written by IU 'For every audiences who didn't get tired of all my chatty 20s, and willingly had a conversation with me. I sincerely thank you. not 23 years old IU, not 25 years old IU, not last years IU, but as me at this present, I'm going for this next part without any doubts. Bye♥ -From Ji-eun'

I would say out of all her albums, and I have listened to EVERYTHING. This has got to be her most experimental album. Some songs namely hi spring bye and my sea are still "that IU song" she includes in every album but everything else is either a slight detour or just a complete 180 from what she normally does. And a lot of it is attributed to the people she worked with for this album. A lot of them were people I haven't really seen her work with before. With IU songs, there are so many Easter eggs too. I can't describe all of them here but with my sea for example, the track is 5mins 16sec long (her birthday is 16 may) and it us the 8th track (her favourite number). Believe me, those are not coincidental. Ah puh was co-written and co-composed by AKMU's Lee Chanhyuk. Lot's of big names and interesting producers in this album. Also, I can't remember which track you pointed out the artistic choice in stripping out the back vocals to match the lyrics (troll or empty cup I think). Yeah, she does that kind of thing a lot. IU wrote the lyrics to every track. Overall I've been a fan for such a long time, I love anything coming out from her anyway it's hard not to be biased and I look forward to the music shows (which will only be a week btw) and other promotions. Really glad you love this album as much as you did and thank you for the reaction. I really did enjoy it a lot!

Ooh. Sorry for wall of text lol

The piano part that you like in the 2nd verse of lilac is a actually a reference to her first hit good day, it’s the same riff which plays just as the actor in the good day mv appears in that part

Kaia EEEEEEEP!!! I’m so so happy to watch this, you talking about how it’s an album that feels specifically catered to your tastes and not being able to describe it is EXACTLY how I feel about her Palette album. Even now, it’s an album that to me, just gives me so much comfort because it misses nothing for me. Obviously Lilac is soo good and I’m streaming so so many of her songs, but I’m just so proud that she’s such a diverse and interesting artist to give us both these feels on two separate albums. She gives us the grooves, the 90s movie ending credits ballads, the heart wrenching choir ballads, all of it lmao. Thanks for your reaction!

I'm so happy that you love this album! I really enjoyed your reaction! It's just really nice to experience listening to the whole album "with" someone that enjoys it as much as I do lol. I'm kinda sad that the lyrics videos were mostly not accurate here u.u but it IS hard to translate IU's lyrics because her words are really poetic and difficult to be translated without losing the beauty of the original.

IU's my sea is hands down SOTY so far for me. :")
