the like layered vocals especially in 119 are my favourite parts lol makes it sound more.. chaotic? a little more powerful at least to me ^^ also i think it has a kind of youthful energy about it? the type of "we're all in this together" spirit? maybe that's why they do it so often..

It’s an SM thing to have layered vocals. The harmonies are amazing and it’s my favorite part of any NCT song. They’re always chanting and harmonizing together and I love it. I get the goosies every time because you can literally hear every single one of their voices and depending on the song it could sound like a war chant or angels harmonizing. I guess we’re the opposite because you say it’s not as impactful but for me having the verses and pre-chorus be one voice and then the chorus being them all gets me every time. I don’t know much about music but it’s interesting listening and hearing 2 singing in a regular register, 2 singing high and 1 singing low.

I have a couple ideas/comments about why they might layer voices so much. 1. They do usually have 1 person leading even when it is layered. 2. They do a lot of performances so maybe it helps with getting tired out. 3. At least with the dreamies they have had lots of times members are missing or just line up changes so it might help with only having to worry about coving verses and not switching back and forth like the chorus. 4. Not being able to say that everyone got lines. Like I think in go or something like all of jisungs lines where layered in the chorus but he was center. I never really noticed the layering so it never really bothered me but I can see why some people don't like it as much.

I personally like the layered voices 😭 and usually there’s one person leading i think it works and i don’t even notice it probably because I’ve been listening to nct for 3 years but i feel like it works

Also sadly dream is the only unit despite being a group for 4 years 🙄that does not have a full album so all the albums are gonna be short sigh

I’ll be honest, I’m super easy to please so I’ll listen to everything and anything, with that being said, i actually love the layered vocals and i especially love nct’s harmonies and adlibs. Nct have some of the best adlibs and harmonies in all of kpop and to me, it makes the song feel so full and refreshing. the layering is a very SM trait and it’s part of the reason im such an SM stan ahaha, but i can get how it’s not everyone’s cup of tea

What you refer to as the "layered voices chorus"... I've never noticed it and it's never bothered me because I guess it's never seemed to me like every member is singing the same note and that's all there is to it... Like, there's always different members with different vocal tones, singing different harmonies, ad libbing, and I can always hear different voices standing out so I've never had the same "underwhelming" feeling you seem to... But yeah this is a very SM thing to hear in the chorus soooo since it bothers you THIS much, you may have a real hard time with SM boy group albums continuing from here, because it isn't going away. Maybe a smaller group like SHINee or TVXQ would be less noticeable, because there are fewer voices so it's easier to distinguish them but... Yeah if it's just not your thing that's fine but I don't know what to tell ya 😟

While I appreciate what you're saying, it doesn't bother me so much that I'm gonna avoid albums. I'll explain more what my thoughts are on the choruses in next weeks one because I don't think I explained well why its not my favorite
