Hello everyone!
As we get ready to unleash Circus Grotesque tomorrow, here is a quick update on our presupported files!
Coming this month, we will be switching from Chitubox to Lychee.
We will still be exporting presupported STLs for you but we will also be supplying you with .LYS files instead of .chitubox
You can get the free version of Lychee here

Here are some benefits that Atlas 3D noted on the Lychee slicer!

· Supports can easily be buffed without causing problems
· All elements of supports are editable inside the free version of Lychee (use the .LYS files)
· All elements of supports can be edited even after they have been placed without causing system crash.
· Support tips dynamically shape to the model to make model removal much easier and reduce scarring
· Models can be resized without losing supports and are still editable after scaling
· Models can be rotated without losing supports and are still editable after rotation
· Supports can be easily cloned to increase the density
· Supports can easily be buffed without causing problems
· Built in island detection that is quite good
· Built in Netfab for repairing holes and other errors in mesh
· Primitive shapes can be imported to make custom scaffolding
· Built in measurement tools

If you need any help with our presupported files you are welcome to ping the @presupporter role on our Discord server!

Cheers,
The Archvillain Team

Hooray! I love Lychee, and am so appreciative that you'll be sending the .lys files as well!

Meh. Never heard about this app.

Khali

If Yessik recommends it, I am definitely going to try it :)

hoet88

Great idea. It seems everyone switchin to Lychee actually Bye bye Shitubox

Elli

Willing to try Lychee, if not just load STL in chitu.... set my profile the same as Chitu already, so lets rock and roll :D

it is still very new as part of the support team we have switched over because we have seen huge improvements in lychee compared to other software and we are working closely with the creates of lychee to help improve and add features i believe everyone would love.

CycyX

@Daniel: heard about every software ever conceived? Lucky you...

John Norton

Well, I'll give it a crack, I take it works in the same way (and appears to be compatible with the Mars 1, so happy enough)

LordOOTFD

I tried Lychee out, and it failed to properly support my usual SoB test model auto support torture test, Prusa Slicer had 11 unsupported islands while Lychee ended up with 45. The popup ad when exporting is incredibly annoying, but I'm going to try it out some more to see how the auto and manual supports behave for better case models. Some of the manual support features look great, and I think I need to give it some more time to properly judge how it handles. The pro version may have better results with auto supports, and I may try it out if the manual support handling is good. The installer requires Administrator elevation which is not ideal, and the actual program phones home which always trips my suspicions.

LordOOTFD

I'm very happy there is a new credible competitor to Chitubox, even if I'm still getting better results from the Prusa Slicer -> Chitubox method. Hopefully they will cause all of the slicers to improve.

Will you only be providing Lychee files? Or will you be providing both? I would prefer to not have to download another slicer on top of the 3 that I already have

ArchvillainGames

The post pretty much says it all, we are providing LYS files and STL presupported files that you can use in any slicer you have. We do not provide project files for multiple slicers.

Sorry, I misread the post. Thanks for clearing things up, I appreciate it

For anyone interested, I have spent some time supporting some more reasonable models, and modifying some of the new presupported minis from my patreons; With the free version inserting new supports to customize the support to my printer and changing the model's scale without breaking the supports are probably the most useful features for me. Once I activated the Pro trial it's significantly more powerful when tweaking supports, the pro features allow fine control over the shape of the supports; I'll probably use that more than the other pro features since I can use it to selectively enhance the supports for problem areas if I have a failure. Running through the workflow for a few minis I think that I'll save about 15-20 minutes when supporting normal models; which makes the software worth it in the long run since that could save me hours a week at least. Overall I'm much more impressed than I was earlier.

great tons more files i wont use to download and bloat my system now. but now i get editable files i wont use instead of the ones i signed up for. so the only choice we have for editable files is lychee.?? if thats the case ill be leaving. frankly ive been having customer service issues here anyway so i guess its been coming regardless.

The best thing of all is that you're forced to stare at an ad for 30 seconds each time you want to save or export a file otherwise it wont perform the task.

Josh

Yea, I'll just be sticking with the .stl files and using chitubox to make my own supports. Which honestly I've been doing anyway since I've had several failures from the pre-supported files and had to redo them.

I Just want to share my disappointment with this move as well. As a casual printer, but regular supporter I find Lychee's free version has some features locked behind a paywall that should not be and of course, the adds on top of it (which is strange, ads and featured locked). I understand why you can't provide 2 files, but I feel this is making me lose value on my pledge.

ArchvillainGames

On the contrary, value is added to your pledge as you get cleaner and more well supported models. The community is moving along with most big Patreon pages already using Lychee and many users seeing the benefit of that as well. On the subject of cost on a slicer a) you can do everything you were doing in the past with the free version and b) software developers have to make a living. The hobby is evolving and we will continue to evolve with it. In the future we might switch software again but it will always be a desicion driven by our wish to deliver quality with our products.

Thanks for your reply. I understand your position but I don't agree with it, and while I do not intend to turn this into a symposium, I do want to point out your "b" point is patronizing and a bit tendencious. Of course, Software developers need to make a living, I am a software developer, I understand this myself. The point here is that different people have different needs; the free product they offer is invasive and the pro version is expensive for what it does in my amateur printer opinion, which I am sure is shared across a lot of people - many of us don't print for a living, but rather as a hobby. In any event, you have to do what you think its best for your business, a few disagreeing customers will not and should not change your direction.

ArchvillainGames

Thanks for your input Pablo. B ) was not intended to be patronizing at all, merely stating the facts that some may or may not ignore. In any case you have our gratitude for supporting us and our products!
