Hello everyone!

It is with great joy that we are able to finally release the first playable version of “Elfheim: The First Adventure” (We are still figuring out the sub title). This rough alpha features our very first playable build and personal milestone, Version 0.1.1 Alpha.

What does the Alpha mean to us?

Our alpha versions will be what we consider "in development" builds, they should be able to be played without experiencing any major bugs or problems, so you can expect the rougher aspects to be in the asset department; finding conceptual or even unfinished assets will be a common thing in these versions, in spite of that, we believe this version will be sufficient to please the most anxious of Elvish fans.

Why is this version available to every Patron?

As we stated in our last post we will be making this alpha available to every Patron Tier just this once, future Alphas will only be available to the Elvish Reveler Tier and above, so have a feast and enjoy this alpha that we have been brewing with all our love and passion!

Version and Milestone - Incrementation and Implementation.

We are planning on releasing at least one alpha for each milestone we reach, this refers to the middle number in our numbering structure, but if something breaks, fear not, we will make sure to fix big issues if they happen to arise after the version has been published.

Is this the same game as before?

Not at all! We put a lot of effort into improving and consequently changing what we had before, almost the entire plot was scrapped(yet you will end up seeing some elements from the past that will still be there), the character sprites are no more, yet they will mostly be reused in other sections of the game(like the in-game Gallery, aptly named “Elfpedia”), and a lot, a whole LOT of other things changed.

Wait a minute... This is looking like a comic instead of a visual novel?!?!

Yes! One of our main narrative changes was to abolish what you would normally expect out of the visual novel structure; character sprites standing in front of a couple of different backgrounds while having only very few and specific scenes rendered. For Elfheim, we plan to make all scenes rendered, the sensation of movement and progression will feel much more akin to an animation’s storyboard than a comic.

Speaking of animations...

You're not crazy, the main menu is alive! We are still improving and testing our skills in this endeavor, but it is well within our plans to make a couple of scenes or elements animated, bringing yet another layer of life to this pointy eared project of ours.

We are very open to any kind of feedback, so, if you would like to share your opinion you can leave a comment in this post as we will be reading all of them, or you can also join our discord, there is a specific channel for discussion about Elfheim, so you can post your thoughts there too.

Finally, we would like to thank all of you for bearing with us while we found our true path forward as well as bearing to read this long post… you are still there, right? Oh well…
