Syphon's warmup sketch for this month. I still really kinda suck at non-anthro animals.

All the while drawing this, I kept thinking of the movie A Boy and His Dog.

Is this the equivalent of a human jogging with a monkey?

TonyHLM

That's ironicily fitting, not bad on the great dane though feels kind of meta when you think about it.... I think I'm coming down now.

Now that I think of it his is the only piece of jays work I've seen that has regular animals it looks good.

Glenn Sellers

Actually, the guy looks like a cheetah without the thick stripes on his tail. So, it would be more like a human jogging with a lemur or a bush baby. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

If you suck at non-anthro animals, I'd hate to see you if you ever got "good" at it. The dog looks like a small or miniature Great Dane.

James

I just always find these kinds of species-crossovers interesting.

Kofie

The dog looks pretty good to me. In your art style I don't really see an error or some sort of disproportion. Anyway, great sketch :)

Thomas

Hey that's dog is pretty good. Don't be so hard on yourself

The only real issue I see with this is the doggy's stride stance. And that only applies if Doggy is running fast. If Doggy is merely trotting, the stride stance still works. If you still think there are issues, just get your paws on film footage of an animal running with different stride patterns / at different speeds and watch frame by farame. Much can be learned about how animals move using that method. This is still awesome work.

A boy and his dog was such an odd movie, even for its time.
