The Weekly Report #48 | December 16, 2022 (Patreon)

Hello dear Patrons,

It's Friday and it's time to review the events of the past week!

[1] MAPPING FOLLOW-UP GRAND UTOPIA

Very little progress this week in terms of mapping and I'm really sorry about that! As announced in my last report, I was away last weekend and especially on Saturday, the day of the week when I normally do most of the work.

Instead, I've made progress on a few things that we'll look at together in the next sections of this report 😉

[2] REFINING THE DISCORD

If you are present on the Grand Utopia Discord, you may have noticed it in the last few days. I made some changes in order to make our server more attractive and less messy.

Reorganising the different categories and channels

As you can see from the image above, I have changed the classification of the salons to keep only the essentials. Namely:

• an "Information" section which will, as its name suggests, contain general information about the Discord but also about maps/addons and the official announcement channel.
• a "Patreon Club" section which includes all the channels exclusively available to you that you are used to. As a novelty, two new channels have been added: a "join the club" channel, which is visible to non-patrons and allows them to learn about the advantages of Patreon; a "patreon news" channel, which will allow all Discord members to be notified when a new article on Patreon is published. The point of these two new lounges is of course to raise interest among non-patreons.
  I almost forgot about the newly created 3rd room! As a Patron, you now have exclusive access to the "Live Mapping" channel, which I will talk about later in this article 😄
• a "Community Corner" which is intended to be the heart of the Discord. It includes the text and general voice channels, the forum, the image and video sharing channel, the channel created for bus fans and the player-support channel.

Adding unexpected information about mods

From now on, each mod and each addon will have a dedicated channel that will allow me to give a brief presentation. Above all, it allows me to give the community various information about each mod, such as the highest village, the number of gas stations on the map or the longest bridge.

The forum

Just a reminder, although the forum has been in place for some time now. This particular room, organized in the form of posts themselves classified according to tags, allows you more freedom. I created several tags (Suggestions, I Need Help, Mods Sharing, Map Editor, Modding and Off Topic) that allow you to open a discussion on many subjects, even if it doesn't concern Grand Utopia directly. So don't hesitate to use them!

[3] LIVE MAPPING

I took the opportunity of this Discord redesign to implement an idea that had been in my head for a long time: live mapping. The Discord solution seems perfect to me to start with as it seems easy to use (despite some problems already encountered during the first tests 😅). On my side, I feel more comfortable via Discord as I don't think I have the necessary skills to do lives on other platforms (I feel technologically outdated when I say that, yet I'm not that old 😂).

In short, the idea is to offer you a brand new, more "personal" advantage since you will be able to actively participate in the live event by asking your questions live via the chat.

I'll come back to you when this new advantage is well implemented. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Discord for a live test! All Patrons have access to it.

[4] RESULTS OF THE 1ST ROUND!

The first round of elections to choose the name of the British Isle took place this week! And, without further ado, here are the 5 most loved names:

• Elisabeth Island (18 votes)
• Sealand (14 votes)
• Britannia (13 votes)
• New Britannia (12 votes)
• Great British Earlands (8 votes ex æquo)
• Utopian British Territory (8 votes ex æquo)

It looks like we have one more vote to make to decide between the two runners up for 5th place! The vote will go live right after this report and will be available for 24 hours so that I can launch the 2nd round of the elections on Sunday (I'll avoid launching the vote too late as was the case this week 😅).

Bonjour chers Patrons,

Nous sommes vendredi et il est l'heure de passer en revue les événements de cette semaine passée !

[1] POINT MAPPING GRAND UTOPIA

Très peu d'avancées cette semaine niveau mapping et j'en suis sincèrement désolé ! Comme annoncé dans mon dernier rapport, j'étais absent le weekend dernier et notamment le samedi, jour de la semaine où je fais en temps normal le plus gros du travail.

Du coup, j'ai plutôt avancé sur des petites choses que nous allons voir ensemble dans les prochaines sections de ce rapport 😉

[2] PEAUFINEMENT DU DISCORD

Si vous êtes présent sur le Discord de Grand Utopia, vous l'avez peut-être remarqué ces derniers jours. J'ai fait quelques modifications notamment afin de rendre plus joli et moins bordélique notre serveur.

Réorganisation des différentes catégories et différents salons

Comme vous pouvez le voir sur l'image ci-dessus, j'ai modifié la catégorisation des salons afin de ne garder que l'essentiel. À savoir :

• une partie "Informations" qui regroupera, comme son nom l'indique, des infos générales sur le Discord mais également sur les maps/addons et le canal des annonces officielles.
• une partie "Patreon Club" qui regroupe l'ensemble des salons qui vous sont réservés auxquels vous êtes habitués. En nouveauté, deux salons ont été ajoutés :   un salon "join the club" qui visible par les non-patrons et qui leur permet de se renseigner sur les avantages du Patreon ; un salon "patreon news" qui permettra à tous les membres du Discord d'être notifiés lorsqu'un nouvel article sur Patreon est publié.
  L'intérêt de ce deux nouveaux salons est bien évidemment de susciter l'intérêt auprès des non-patreon.
  J'ai failli oublier le 3e salon nouvellement créé ! En tant que Patrons, vous disposez désormais d'un accès exclusif au salon "Live Mapping" dont je vais parlé un peu plus loin dans cet article 😄
• une partie "Community Corner" qui a vocation à être le cœur du Discord. On y retrouve le salon textuel et le salon vocal général, le forum, le salon dédié au partage d'images et de vidéos, le salon créé pour les amateurs de bus et le salon d'entraide entre joueurs.

Ajout d'infos insolites sur les mods

À présent, chaque mod et chaque addon disposera d'un salon dédié qui me permettra d'en faire une présentation succincte. Surtout, cela me permet de transmettre à la communauté des infos diverses et variées sur chacun des mods, comme par exemple le village le plus haut, le nombre de station-service présente sur la map ou encore le pont le plus long.

Le forum

Petit rappel, bien que le forum est en place depuis quelques temps maintenant. Ce salon particulier, organisé sous forme de posts eux-mêmes classés selon des tags, vous permet plus de libertés. J'ai créé plusieurs tags (Suggestions, I Need Help, Mods Sharing, Map Editor, Modding et Off Topic) qui vous permettent d'ouvrir une discussions sur pas mal de sujet, même si cela ne concerne pas directement Grand Utopia. N'hésitez donc pas à les utiliser !

[3] LIVE MAPPING

J'ai profité de cette refonte du Discord pour mettre en place une idée qui me trottait dans la tête depuis un long moment : mapper en live. La solution Discord me semble parfaite pour commencer puisqu'elle semble simple d'utilisation (malgré quelques problèmes déjà rencontrés lors des premiers tests 😅). De mon côté, je me sens plus à l'aise via Discord car je ne penses pas avoir les compétences nécessaires pour faire des lives sur d'autres plateformes (j'ai l'impression d'être dépassé technologiquement quand je dis ça, pourtant je suis pas si vieux que ça 😂).

Bref, l'idée est de vous proposer un tout nouvel avantage, plus "personnel" puisque vous pourrez participer activement au live en posant vos questions en direct via le chat.

Je reviendrai vers vous quand ce nouvel avantage sera bien mis en place. D'ici là, n'hésitez pas à guetter le Discord pour participer à un live test ! Tous les Patrons peuvent y accéder.

[4] RÉSULTATS DU 1ER TOUR !

Le premier tour des élections pour le choix du nom de l'île britannique a eu lieu cette semaine ! Et, sans plus attendre, voici les 5 noms les plus aimés :

Il semble que nous avons un vote supplémentaire à faire pour départager les deux ex æquo de la 5e place ! Le vote sera mis en ligne juste après ce rapport et sera disponible durant 24 heures afin que je puisse lancer dès dimanche le 2e tour des élections (je vais éviter de lancer le vote trop en retard comme ce fut le cas cette semaine 😅).
