Aubrey is from a universe where werewolfism is an STD. Most people get a vaccine against it like the one for HPV but Aubrey didn't get it which is how she caught a case from her new boyfriend who was an unwitting carry of the werewolf virus. Aubrey doesn't have the insurance to get the pills that would make her look human so she's stuck getting a crash course in the werewolf subculture she's been dragged into.
