I had the idea for the person-shaped hole from a Junji Ito comic, I've never actually read. Before going with the hole I considered a having Willa, Ash, and Ferrah go to Ash and Ferrah's house, which happens to be the team zap club house. I decided to forgo it since I couldn't think of a reason why going there would be a change of plans.
