Hey, everyone. No chapters this week as the RoyalRoad posting winds down. Last time I got hate for not giving people time to read, so I'll leave them up a bit longer.

In any case, the new covers aren't close to done, so we're stalled anyway. Please check out the new draft for TWC1, though! I hope the colored version of this will be a more dynamic signpost for the series. It's not accurate to Theo's blueprint, but book covers are movie posters anyway.

A question for you: if we follow this model for the covers, what should the others be? We could have Fiyu and Nauda with their own buildings, of course, but I worry this model would quickly become repetitive.

It might be neat to see "typical" blueprints for the various worlds the characters experience as cover art! It allows more artistic creativity since it isn't tied to a specific character, and can still be flavorful.

Thanks for offering a suggestion! Honestly, I hadn't thought about blueprints aside from the main characters, so that's a new idea for me.

What if you created sort of a cover that showed a soul village of all the soul homes ? Or like just artwork of all of them? I think that would be cool.

Luke

Honestly, this art differs enough from any of the established soulhomes we've seen that I kind of already ascribe it to some unnamed character. I think leaning more into that direction could be nice.

Thanks for offering a suggestion! Do you mean a village of characters from a certain world, or a combination of main characters? Either could work, though the latter should probably be saved for a climactic book.

Cameron C

Either one I think would be neat. Village of the worlds we hadn’t seen yet, or even all the main characters. I like the idea of a bunch of soul homes in like a soul neighborhood

sarahlin

I really hadn't thought about that approach. I'd be curious if anyone else has opinions, but if that works, it could definitely give character to a lot of covers.

Runcible Technician

As long as they all had different buildings and more importantly different colorization, they wouldn't look out of place amidst other series that have similar-but-different covers. A suggestion though; have the characters be in different places on the cover for each so that a scroll through on amazon or kindle would draw the eye to a different part of the image.

Good point about character placement, thanks! And yeah, covers are mainly for branding, so just getting something dynamic is probably a key part.

I could see covers featuring a main character each, and their soul homes ... the first book would probably show Theo's original soulhome in flames.
