Okay, we're doing this! The second book will be posted every Saturday, several chapters at a time instead of just one. I'll post more based on wordcount than on an exact number of chapters, but to start things off with a bang I decided to post more than normal.

I've already said a fair amount about this book, I'm aiming to keep the same spirit while doing something a bit different. It includes some elements that weren't in the first book and doubles down on certain aspects of realism, so I hope people like that. Having said that, let's get started!

Spotted a typo in chapter 3: "but since she'd began to control her condition": began -> begun

Haven't been reading any of the previous posts to step in Spoiler free and boy do I love it. Great start to S2 and looking forward to more!

Very nice! Worth the wait.

I'm honestly surprised Melissa has such a normal looking ether status given her whole constantly burning flame thing. I'm kind of wondering if the phone app doesn't actually have the ability to understand what's going on properly. Otherwise I would at least expect her foundations to be a hell of a lot stronger given what her ether had to deal with.

Great opening. I thought the addition about the public education system being messed up was interesting. My own public education was pretty bad, but I never had repeat lessons in different grades. Is this just indicative of Rick's worlds terrible public institutions or are you drawing from real life?

That's from real life. I don't know if it's representative of the worst public schools, as mine were actually pretty highly rated overall. It's just that between all the different grades there isn't always good coordination and you end up learning about the same events more than once. Doubly so for sections dedicated to local history where the teacher can choose what to cover.

Your job interview description is very accurate—they all say to be honest but in reality you shouldn't be. :)
