Best guess: The sort of beating Granny Whitney arranged actually chips off tiny bits of lucores but compresses the remainder. Maybe it improves the level of the lucore? I don't think we know what lucore level specifically does, other than higher is better. Is she turning him into a munchkin by restraining the growth of his generation cap while increasing the levels of his lucores?
