Another Patreon Sketch Thingy for render month way back when. I've got a ton to say about this, and normally I'd keep it to myself. But I figure you may (since you're paying) want some insight in to how I approach growing as an artist. I've long since lost the email, but I remember that this was supposed to be Vi in boy shorts and a tube top raging at losing a match of league. Obviously the outfit meant that this was supposed to be a pin-up. Well, how do you depict raging at a computer, AND show her in boy shorts and a tube top. There is nothing attractive about gamer rage. These two concepts are dissonant. Additionally, how do you show both her and what she's raging at? Initially, I had her just sitting at the computer, but not only was it a little bland, but it didn't really communicate that she was angry. (I'll post that sketch later). So I decided to super exaggerate the motion, and since flipping tables is a common meme for rage that afforded the opportunity to show her screen and show what she was raging at. Next, when this was chosen as part of render month, I decided to experiment in rendering and lighting technique. I'm really try to improve painterly shadows because I feel they're more appealing to the eye, but how to do that without devolving in to merely making this a painting is difficult. Also, with most of my work I feel like the color of the light isn't always present, which leads to a very samey aesthetic.
