Ah. It's an abnormal normal thing. Now it makes sense!

Would need to rotate the normals 360d through the length of the curve, but how? And what other oddities would that excite?

in some sense that's what is already happening (with a half turn) - the issue is if you start with normal 'x' and as you progress along the curve you make it to 'x+180' - at the stitching point these are exact opposites of eachother. if you progress to 'x+360' that is a full twist and is a non-issue (but also is not a mobius strip)
