During very early development of Restitched, we played around with the idea of navigating the Main Menu UI through a Stitch & Stuffy box that was located on the desk of a bedroom. We’ve touched on this space a little in our Dev Diary ‘First Steps’, but in this From The Vault feature we’ll be going a little more in-depth, and showing some images never-before-released!

The desk would be where players started their game, and they would go into their box (dubbed 'Stuffington Manor') which they could personalise to their liking.

Here is a rough concept that was posted on February 16th 2020 by our previous Director Hunter showing what the inside of the box could look like once personalised:

And here are some further concepts posted on the same day by Halston using a third-party video game:

On March 1st, 2020, Ozy began working on the block-out, creating and sharing the following images:

The final pieces of work on this space was conducted only two days later - on March 3rd, 2020. Development was short and sweet on this area, and it was officially scrapped in March of 2021.

There's no doubt that the area and concepts are beautiful - but we found the amount of resources it would require (networking UI, environment art, models, etc) would be too large a task for our team. We would much rather put this effort into spaces that would actually be present in the creation of content for the game - such as level backgrounds. It also felt a little too similar to our Attic theme, which is the first area of the Story that players experienced - so we wanted that area to feel like uncharted territory.
