Back in mid-late 2022, we were playing around with ideas for enhancing Stuffy's moveset even further! We'd already introduced climbing, crawling, and slashing. So, what else could we add that would be fun in gameplay?

What if Stuffy could slide? No... what if Stuffy could dash into a slide? We also looked into how this might be used as a combo move. For example, what if jumping after a dash/slide would boost your jump height?

Our then-concept-artist Levana mocked up a concept of how this might look:

Then, our animators got to work on making it a reality:

Into Slide

Out of Slide

Once we had the visuals and idea down, our coders got to work on implementing it!

As you can see, it's still a little rough. This feature was never finished because we decided it felt useless and bloated Stuffy's moveset. We want to keep gameplay simple enough to understand for everyone. Adding more controls and combos would make it harder for players to build levels around, and adding a feature to disable parts of the movement could be confusing when you jump into various levels and expect them to work.

Dashing was originally meant to be used more for combat than platforming, but plans change and it didn't work out as well there either! So, in the end, we decided to ditch it. We're still glad we did!

What do you think about the canceled sliding/dashing feature in Restitched? It looks cool, but how would you imagine it being useful in levels? We love hearing different perspectives!

Maybe have the dash be like a shoe powerup you could pick up, like the powerups in lbp2? That way it could still be kept but wouldn't ruin the controls for levels without sliding

I agree this is a smart approach, rather than implementing it into the games base moveset.
